2024 has been an action-packed year for smartphones. We got to see flagships with next-gen camera technology, powerful chipsets, superfast charging speeds and much more. Some of my personal favourites from this year have been the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, iPhone 16, OnePlus 12, iQOO 13, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, etc.
We speculate that smartphone brands will continue this tradition in 2025 and launch even more powerful smartphones next year. The highlights of 2025 are expected to be Qualcomm and MediaTek's latest chipsets, Sony LYT camera sensors, silicon-anode batteries and high-resolution OLED displays.
While the iPhone 16 Pro has set the tone for the year with its advanced camera capabilities and Apple Intelligence features, Android flagships from Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and others should be ready to take the competition to new heights.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the most anticipated Android devices of 2025 and why they’re worth waiting for.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
The Galaxy S25 Ultra will be Samsung’s biggest flagship of 2025 and will compete against the iPhone 16 Pro. The design of the device has already leaked, as shown above. It will feature rounded corners and camera rings around its sensors.
It will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipsets and will pack 12GB RAM, as spotted on a Geekbench listing. It will run Android 15-based OneUI 7.1 out of the box, which is claimed to bring several changes to Samsung’s Android skin. Not to miss Galaxy AI, which is one of the most talked-about feature of Samsung in 2024. We speculate the brand will add new features to the suite this year.
The highlight of Samsung’s upcoming flagship would be the new 50-megapixel ultrawide JN1 sensor. It will borrow the rest of the camera specifications from the Galaxy S24 Ultra, packing a 5,000mAh battery that will support 45W fast charging.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will also feature a bigger 6.9-inch display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels.
According to rumour mills, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will launch on January 23, 2025, at Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco.

OnePlus 13
The OnePlus 12 remains one of the most value-for-money flagship smartphones of 2024. It was one of the best-selling flagship smartphones on Amazon during the Great Indian Festival Sale. Its successor, the OnePlus 13, is confirmed to launch in January 2025. Thanks to its launch in China, we are already familiar with its specifications.
OnePlus has always been a brand for those who want performance without compromise and the OnePlus 13 is no different. The flagship will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite chipset, paired with up to 24GB RAM but we speculate it will be capped at 16GB RAM for the Indian market.
The phone features a 120Hz LTPO OLED panel with 2K resolution and a variable refresh rate. For those concerned about the green line issue, OnePlus says it is adding a new protective layer to the AMOLED display to minimise the risk of a green line. It is also extending its new lifetime warranty program to all OnePlus devices against green-line display issues.
On the camera front, it features a 50-megapixel Hasselblad-tuned main camera accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens. We speculate that OnePlus will add several AI features around photos and videos.
The OnePlus 13 has a new 6,000mAh capacity battery made of silicon-carbon material that supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Vivo X200 Ultra
Vivo launched X200 Series in India on December 12, consisting of two models: X200 and X200 Pro. It will also feature another model, the X200 Ultra, which will sit at the top of the line.
The phone will be the successor to the Vivo X100 Ultra and will have ZEISS-tuned camera lenses. The highlight of the device will be a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, accompanied by a 50-megapixel main and an ultrawide lens. Vivo is tipped to replace the 1-inch main sensor with a 1/1.3-inch sensor in the X200 Ultra.
The Vivo X200 Ultra will reportedly be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. The rest of the specifications of the device remain under wraps and should be revealed soon.
However, the Vivo X200 Ultra will remain a China exclusive and will not launch in India.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra
The Ultra series is Xiaomi’s top-of-the-line smartphone and is popular for its camera prowess. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra launched in India early this year, and its successor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, is expected to launch early next year as well.
A leak on the Chinese social media platform Weibo suggests that the 15 Ultra will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, just like its siblings, Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, which have already launched in China.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra might feature a 2K quad-curved AMOLED display, just like its predecessor. According to a 3C certification listing, the 15 Ultra will support 90W fast charging.
Coming to optics, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra's main highlight is tipped to be a 200-megapixel large-aperture periscope telephoto sensor and a 1-inch type main camera with an f/1.63 aperture. It may also feature a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor.
Xiaomi’s 15 Ultra is poised to make waves with its premium hardware and software upgrades. Expected to come with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, it will compete directly with Samsung and Vivo in the smartphone camera race.
It will run Xiaomi HyperOS 2 based on Android 15. The phone will be IP68 and IP69 water-and-dust-resistant and will support wireless charging.
We speculate the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 will arrive in India in the first or second quarter of 2024.
OnePlus Open 2
Foldable phones are the future and Samsung has long dominated this segment. However, the OnePlus Open, launched in 2023, proved to be a worthy competitor.
In 2025, OnePlus is expected to launch the Open 2, featuring a larger folding screen with 2K resolution. It will pack a 5,700mAh battery supporting wireless charging while maintaining an ultra-slim profile.
The camera system will likely include a Hasselblad-tuned triple-lens setup for ultra-wide and telephoto photography. Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite chipset, the Open 2 will challenge Samsung’s foldable dominance.
Samsung is also expected to launch budget foldables in 2025.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra
Oppo’s Find X8 Ultra will take the spotlight from the Find X7 Ultra as the brand’s most advanced flagship. Combining top-tier performance with flagship-level cameras, the Find X8 Ultra promises to impress.
According to Weibo’s Digital Chat Station, it will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, unlike other models in the Find X8 Series that will use MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipsets.
The phone will sport a 6.82-inch LTPO BOE X2 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. It will also feature a single-point ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance.

The camera setup will include four 50-megapixel sensors, two of which will be periscope lenses. Oppo has confirmed a Spring 2025 launch and the device will reach global markets, including India.
Google Pixel 10 Pro
The Google Pixel 10 Pro is one of 2025’s most awaited smartphones. The Pixel series remains a favourite among photography enthusiasts for its computational photography and AI integration.
The Pixel 10 Pro will reportedly feature a custom Tensor G5 chipset, the first Tensor chip manufactured by TSMC instead of Samsung. Its key feature will be Gemini Live, which introduces new AI and ML capabilities.
Leaked case images on X (formerly Twitter) confirm the Pixel 10 Pro will retain the signature Camera Visor design which continues to set it apart from other flagships.
While detailed specifications remain unknown, the Pixel 10 Pro will launch alongside the Pixel 9a in 2025.
