Chinese-origin Android phone manufacturers always create a demand for one or two features annually.

One year, it will be all about chasing bezel-less displays and the next year, the marketing materials will go wild about how you don’t need buttons on your phone. Some year, they decide that 200-megapixel cameras are absolutely necessary for modern phone cameras whereas the next one, it will be all about hiding the selfie camera – either by masking it under the screen or using pop-up mechanisms. Remember the 2019 fever of pop-up cameras?

For 2025, there’s a new feature that brands will be chasing – the largest battery capacity.

Wonder how large? While the highest-end phones of today have already surpassed 6,000mAh capacity, Chinese engineers have figured out that you will need upwards of 7,000mAh batteries in your phone. The target, in fact, is set at 8,000mAh, if the development goes according to the plans!

Before you rub your eyes in dismay, get this – Realme is already working on such a large battery for its next flagship. The phone might not necessarily be getting bigger than the ones we see today but the revised architecture could make larger capacities enabling longer stamina a possibility.

Let’s take an in-depth look at all the gossip about batteries on next-gen Android phones.

Android phones with larger-than-life battery capacity happening!

Based on the latest gossip emerging from Digital Chat Station via Notebookcheck, Realme is actively working on expanding the battery capacity of its next-gen Android flagships. After scaling up to 6,500mAh for the Realme GT 7 Pro, the company is exploring larger capacities and how quickly can they be charged.

A 7,000mAh battery is the easiest upgrade available for Realme since it allows the brand to offer its 120W wired charging solution. The 120W solution should help the battery to be topped up in under 42 minutes. Not bad by any standard!

But Realme being Realme, having higher figures always seems better on marketing promos. Hence, the engineers are also exploring a 7,500mAh capacity battery mated to a 100W SuperVOOC charging solution. This arrangement should bump up the 0-100 per cent charging time to 55 minutes.

As if this wasn’t enough, Realme is also exploring an 8,000mAh capacity battery that’s mated to a slower 90W wired charging solution. The charging time for 0-100 per cent increases to 90 minutes but you might be charging the battery a lot less.

How is Realme achieving such unbelievable battery capacity

Realme’s reliance on silicon carbon anode technology allows them to make the battery more energy-dense, thus allowing the battery to expand in capacity without expanding the size. Since Realme falls under the Oppo-OnePlus umbrella, you can expect to see the same technology utilised on more flagships from these BBK brands.

Do we need such bigger batteries for phones?

Having more battery life on phones is never a bad thing and it is great to see a phone manufacturer working on a feature that’s more than just a marketing gimmick. The iPhones of late have made a fortune by increasing their battery capacities and we don’t see why Android-based phone makers won’t benefit from it.

However, having an 8,000mAh capacity battery on your next Android smartphone won’t necessarily mean longer than usual battery life. The modern 3nm chipsets of today, while being efficient, offer a lot more raw performance to tap and that’s something app developers would exploit. Having the ability to play AAA console video games, coupled with 5G network connectivity, on a phone may have a drastic impact on the battery life.

Hence, the Android phones of tomorrow will require a larger battery capacity to maintain single-day stamina (a common trait of Android phones). Thankfully, faster-charging solutions of today ensure tolerable waiting periods to refill the battery.

Forget 8,000mAh. We will welcome 10,000mAh batteries on Android phones with our arms wide open!
