Google’s Pixel A-series has upheld its reputation since its debut. Despite the strong competition, these budget-centric Google phones are famous for its cameras, a stock Android interface and best-in-class hardware. With each update, the series has grown a lot and the recent AI features are the cherry on top. For tech enthusiasts and budget-centric buyers, the Pixel A-series often feels like striking gold.

As rumours of the Pixel 9a start to circulate, excitement among fans of the series is reaching a fever pitch. Leaks hint at a device that might yet again punch above its weight, sporting upgraded hardware and refined software features.

Will it carry over Google’s latest Tensor chip, making AI capabilities even smarter and more powerful? Can the new Pixel 9a carry forward the legacy of older Pixels? And what will the price be?

Pixel 9a leaked specifications

Based on the leaked specifications, there's almost nothing we don't know about the Pixel 9a, the price being the only exception. After all these years, Google is still struggling to keep its secrets safe!

The Pixel 9a is expected to be 8.9mm slim and 189.5g heavy. The device is also expected to get the IP68 certification, which means the smartphone should be water and dust-resistant.

The Pixel 9a will be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset. We have seen the same SoC in the Pixel 9 series. This is a 4nm-based octa-core chipset. Apart from that, the smartphone will feature 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and the base version will come with 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. Google may ship another 256GB variant.

The ‘Pixel A’ series is also famous for its compact size and sleek design.

The Pixel 9a may keep the legacy alive and is expected to come with a 6.285-inch 1080 x 2424 display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sampling rate. The Google Pixel 9a is shaping up to be an impressive mid-range smartphone with a focus on display, camera and battery upgrades. The device’s display is rumored to reach a peak brightness of 2,700 nits, with HDR brightness levels hitting 1,800 nits. It is expected to be shielded by Gorilla Glass 3 for durability.

On the camera front, the Pixel 9a is said to feature a 48-megapixel primary lens with an f/1.7 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). Reports suggest that Google might equip this camera with the Samsung ISOCELL GN8 sensor for enhanced image quality.
Accompanying the main lens is a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, likely using Sony’s IMX712 sensor, which is also expected to be used for the front-facing camera, ensuring high-quality selfies and video calls.

The battery sees a notable upgrade as well, with the Pixel 9a rumored to pack a 5,100mAh battery. This is a significant boost from the 4,492mAh battery in its predecessor, the Pixel 8a. The new model will reportedly support 23W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging, providing more convenience for users on the go.

With its improved specs, the Pixel 9a looks like a solid upgrade over the Pixel 8a, which featured the Tensor G3 SoC.
If these rumours got real, Google’s upcoming device could become a strong contender in the affordable smartphone market.

In terms of software, it may come with Android 15 out of the box with Google's Gemini 2.0 baked in. The Pixel 9a could also be promised with seven years of Android and security updates, similar to other Pixel 9 series models. The brand may launch the smartphone in four colour tones, including Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris and Peony. The expected price for the 128GB version of the India model will be around INR 42,000.

Conclusion

Google Pixel holds a very minimal market share in the Indian smartphone industry. However, all the Pixel A-series models have seen growth in terms of consumer retention in the Indian market.

With competition increasing day by day, other brands are offering better specifications at affordable prices and Pixel fanboys often have to wait for good seasonal offers to get one. We hope that the brand launches the Pixel 9a at a reasonable price and cracks the market game.
