Samsung is ‘FE-ing’ its flip smartphone!

No pun intended here! The FE nomenclature has decorated some of the most accessible Galaxy S models over the last few years after an unusual start with the Galaxy Note 7 FE. Samsung eventually applied the name to its value-centric tablets as well as smartwatch offerings. Now, the South Korean brand is planning something similar for its flip smartphone.

Based on fresh rumours from the tech industry, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE is the next big thing for the team working on the flip phones. The Flip phones have so far been offered as an accessible alternative to the book-style foldable and now, Samsung wants to make the Flip more accessible.

SPOILER ALERT: The Galaxy Z Flip FE could be the most affordable flip phone from Samsung – something on the lines of the vanilla Motorola Razr 50.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE: Will fans like this one?

As of now, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE is solely a myth on the internet. All we know is that the Flip FE could exist as part of Samsung’s 2025 smartphone lineup.

The Galaxy Z Flip FE is rumoured to be a more affordable variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Based on the history of Samsung repurposing older flagship designs for the FE branded devices, we expect the Galaxy Z Flip FE to reuse the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s chassis and design.

Samsung could use an older generation Exynos chipset to keep the prices accessible while offering the standard Galaxy Z experience. A chipset like the Exynos 2300e could offer the right balance of performance and value. Samsung could also buck the trend and settle for an older Qualcomm flagship chip – something like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

If that happens, sign us up for an early access Samsung!

A compact cover display could limit the features and apps, forcing everyone to head over to the main display. Galaxy AI could be a standard affair on the Flip FE and Samsung could offer it with up to seven years of OS update promise.

The primary camera system could be carried over from the older Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Samsung could also limit the battery capacity to under 3,500mAh.

Galaxy Z Flip FE expected price

The current generation Galaxy Z Flip 6 retails for approximately INR 89,999, which, despite a price cut, keeps it in the premium segment. With the Flip FE, Samsung would like to undercut its premium flip phone and try to offer it at the price of a flagship killer offering like the Galaxy S24 FE.

The Galaxy Z Flip FE could also be designed keeping in mind the latest crop of affordable flip phones from Motorola and Tecno that carry prices of around INR 60,000. Samsung could initially come up with a price in the vicinity of these handsets to maximise its profits and once the hype drops, it could phone could become a better value-for-money proposition, just like the old Galaxy S23 FE.

When will the Flip FE launch?

Based on the tip, the Galaxy Z Flip FE could come a few months prior to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It is said that the Flip FE could accompany the rumoured Galaxy S25 Slim on the stage in April 2024. While this is an unusual launch timeline for Samsung, it could help the brand tackle the competition from the upcoming iPhone SE 4th generation, which is Apple's take on the midrange smartphone segment.
