Toyota has a very selective portfolio but almost every model in it has a unique identity that appeals to a wide range of customers. Among these, the Toyota Camry stands out as the brand's only luxury sedan, holding a distinct and prestigious position.

Known for its exceptional reliability and premium features, the Camry has built a reputation for outperforming entry-level luxury cars from renowned brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes. It combines Toyota's engineering excellence with unmatched value for money, making it a preferred choice for discerning buyers.

Toyota has now introduced the ninth-generation upgrade of the Camry in India, a model that was first unveiled internationally about a year ago. This latest version brings refined aesthetics, advanced features and a more sophisticated driving experience.

The standout feature of this sedan remains its petrol-hybrid powertrain system, which offers a perfect balance of performance and fuel efficiency while promoting environmentally conscious driving. The Camry’s blend of cutting-edge technology, luxurious interiors and eco-friendly engineering continues to set it apart in the competitive luxury sedan market.

What’s new in the Toyota Camry 2025

The ninth-generation Toyota Camry is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture-K platform.

At the front, it features hammerhead styling with a sharp nose, slim LED headlamps, a reworked grille and DRLs. Toyota has slightly repositioned the logo higher than in the previous version. The new Camry also adopts Lexus-inspired bumpers. Its side profile showcases a bold character line running across the length of the car, while the rear sports C-shaped LED taillights and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Engine Updates

The 2025 Toyota Camry is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth-generation Hybrid System (THS 5). The updated engine now generates 12 hp more than the previous generation, producing a maximum power of 230 hp, a 30 per cent improvement. This hybrid sedan is equipped with an eCVT gearbox for smooth and efficient performance.

Interior and features

Toyota has revamped the interior with a redesigned dashboard that incorporates a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car also features nine JBL speakers, a 10-inch head-up display and digital key functionality.

The rear seats now include reclining and ventilation options, controlled via a rear centre console. To enhance comfort, Toyota has added ventilated 10-way power-adjustable front seats, three-zone automatic climate control and a panoramic sunroof with a sunshade.

The most notable upgrade in this generation is Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite which now comes as standard. This includes ADAS features like pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, radar-based cruise control, lane tracing, road sign assist and automatic high beams for better night-time visibility. Additionally, the Camry is equipped with nine airbags, parking sensors and a 360-degree camera for enhanced safety.

Assembly, price and competition

Toyota continues to ship the Camry to India via the CKD route, as it has done since the seventh generation, with final assembly taking place at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka.

Priced at INR 48 lakhs, the new Camry faces competition from the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Audi A3. However, direct comparisons are challenging as Toyota positions the Camry as a unique offering, blending luxury and reliability at a competitive price point.
