At Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2024 event, the American IT giant showcased the next generation Apple CarPlay, which will make its way into production vehicles this year. This software has an all-new user interface, offering more control and customisation possibilities.
Unlike the outgoing version of Apple CarPlay, the new version will give access to control HAV, infotainment, instrument cluster, and passenger display (if available). Further, it will allow users to control several functions, such as climate control, driving modes, off-road statistics, and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Notable Features
As indicated above, the upcoming CarPlay will be compatible with all the digital displays of the car. This offering will enable a more dynamic use of available space based on the car manufacturer’s needs. Apple also claimed that the carmakers can now also tweak the interface of this CarPlay.
For instance, carmakers can now add controls for ventilated seats or revamp the climate control menu as per the interior of the car.
Apart from that, the customisation of gauge setups and the information layouts are also accessible. That being said, the passenger screen (if equipped) can be customised to display only navigation, while the central display can display additional gauges.
It is also worth mentioning that the latest version of the new CarPlay from Apple will be able to house an array of notifications related to performance gauges, off-road gauges, tyre pressure warnings, inclinometres, etc., on the infotainment and instrument cluster units
Release Date
According to credible sources, Aston Martin and Porsche will be among the first automobile manufacturers to incorporate the next-generation Apple CarPlay in their upcoming products.
As mentioned earlier, this new vehicle-oriented software and other Apple software updates are expected to roll out in the late third quarter or early fourth quarter of 2024.
