Apple is expected to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Apple Watch in a unique way that could impress fitness enthusiasts.
The Apple Watch was revealed to the world on September 9 2014 but became available for sale in April 2015. Technically, Apple’s tenth anniversary would be in September 2024, but that date has already passed. While we saw the Apple Watch Series 10 introduce a drastic redesign, we speculated that Apple could be doing more to celebrate one of its most popular products.
Now, leaks and rumours suggest that the company might consider celebrating its tenth anniversary in April, the month of its market debut.
Apple Watch's tenth anniversary celebration coming soon
Recently, hints within the iOS 18.2 beta code point toward a tenth-anniversary celebration of the Apple Watch, with potential new activity achievements.
Although Apple hasn’t announced any special edition for the 10th anniversary, the Apple Watch remains popular for its health and fitness tracking accuracy. Rumours suggest that Apple might surprise Watch users with new fitness challenges, potentially including a 10,000-step goal. According to reports by MacRumors, code within the latest iOS 18.2 developer beta includes the phrase “Ten Year Celebration.”

Based on these hints, we can speculate that Apple might be planning a special fitness challenge, which would be a unique way for any brand to celebrate such an anniversary.
This move could potentially target competitors like Samsung, Amazfit and Garmin. Garmin, in particular, is highly recommended for the accuracy of its wearable devices which is a key factor in its success among fitness enthusiasts. By focusing on the fitness part, Apple may aim to dominate the entire wearable market in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
For now, we’ll have to wait for Apple’s final announcement to see if these speculated fitness challenges become a reality. If so, it could set a new standard and create a stronger image of Apple in the world of fitness wearables.

10 years of the Apple Watch: A quick history tour
Over the years, Apple has evolved its smartwatch to be more than just your smartphone's extension. In a market that treats smartwatches as a luxury, the Apple Watch has been established as a 'necessity', prioritising health and fitness.
The first Apple Watch was showcased in 2014 but eventually reached the showroom floors in 2015. A small square dial on your wrist capable of showing fitness stats and smartphone notifications in real-time: it was a revolution for the wearable segment. As a result, approximately 4.2 million units were sold in the second quarter of 2015.
The watch was able to count steps, track calories and monitor heart rate. But Apple didn't stop there. In 2018, Apple introduced the ECG tracking feature with the Apple Watch Series 4 for monitoring heart rhythms and detecting irregularities. Later in 2020, Apple introduced the blood oxygen monitoring feature with the Watch Series 6. In 2022, Apple introduced the rugged Apple Watch Ultra to target adventure enthusiasts and athletes with its advanced durable design and rugged look.

Not just the hardware but software too saw a dramatic improvement over the years. Apple has added multiple useful features like fall detection, emergency SOS and crash detection. The watch fits seamlessly into the Apple ecosystem.
But the Apple Watch was more than just a luxury fashion piece. It saved lives too!
In 2023, 29-year-old Kimmie Watkins was feeling light-headed and dizzy when her Apple Watch alerted her that her heart rate had been abnormally high for over 10 minutes. She rushed to the hospital to seek medical help and eventually lived to share her story with us.
Another well-known case involved the Apple Watch Series 7, which helped save an Apple user from cancer. In October 2021, Jessica noticed continuous beeps on her mother's watch, indicating a high heart rate alert. She took her mother to the hospital where they discovered that Imani, her mother, was suffering from appendicitis. During this visit, doctors also found a cancerous tumour. Imani took the necessary precautions and underwent surgery to remove it. This critical discovery was made possible because the Watch alerted her about a life-threatening situation.
