With silicon carbon batteries, smartphones can now last longer! A 6,000 mAh cell can keep your phone powered long enough to outlast an entire day, even if you are glued to your phone all day. That said, if you are away from the wall sockets all day, having a power bank on you helps. Head over to Amazon, Flipkart or even your local electronics store and the choice of power banks available is as massive as infinity. You can’t go wrong with any of them!

Stuffcool, however, feels that you shouldn’t spend a fortune on an enormous capacity cell and compromise on style! As a brand with a penchant for making some of the most desirable wired and wireless power banks, Stuffcool brings a retro sci-fi vibe to its latest lineup of powerbanks. It’s called Roam and as the name suggests, is suitable for carrying around in small ouches, backpacks and even pockets.

The vanilla Roam model offers 10,000 mAh capacity and is slim enough to carry around in your standard trouser pockets. The one we have here though is the Roam+ – a larger capacity powerbank with 20,000 mAh of power reserve. As a result, this one is thicker than the regular variant and while you can carry around one in your pocket, it is heavy enough to make gravity have a magnified effect on your trousers. Gravity, thou art a heartless!

Creativity doesn’t see any bounds, even when it comes to designing a powerbank. Stuffcool’s designers took inspiration from Nothing’s retro sci-fi transparent designfor the front panel. A transparent cover highlights the 90s’ inspired greyish accent for the majority of the front. A small window exposes the circuit components as well as the LED indicator for power level. The LEDs feature a retro plastic lens – most of them glow in white while the last one glows green when there’s fast charging activated.

Look around and the rest of the powerbank is nothing but a glossy plastic box with two connector ports and a power button. The glossy finish is prone to scratches and entirely depends on how safe you keep it from the worldly elements.

As for the ports, you get a standard USB-C outlet with a maximum rated output of 20W PD and a USB-A port with a maximum rated output of 22.5W. The USB-C outlet supports DC 5V/3A, 9V/2.22A and 12V/1.67A (20W max) for output whereas for input, it supports DC 5V/2.4A, 9V/2A and 12V/1.5A (18W Max). The USB-A ports supports out of DC 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 10V/2.25A and 12V/1.5A (22.5W Max).

With a total capacity of 20,000 mAh, the Roam+ supports multiple battery refills for most modern-day smartphones. On a fully charged battery, the Roam+ was able to charge my iPhone 15 Plus thrice from 0-100 per cent. On a standard iPhone 15, the number of recharges will go up to four times! Sadly, I didn’t have an Android phone on me during the test period to find out the number of charges.

That said, for a quick recharge session, the Roam+ was able to juice up my colleague’s iQOO Neo 9 Pro from 25 per cent to 60 per cent in under 30 minutes.

In essence, you will be able to charge any modern iPhone at its fastest speed. For Android phones, the standard 18W power delivery format will refill the battery rather slowly. OnePlus, Oppo and Realme devices will take advantage of the 22.5W fast charging protocol. I observed no overheating or related thermal issues in my time with the Roam+, although that could be down to the pleasant weather conditions in February.

As far as charging the powerbank is concerned, the Roam+ can charge itself at speeds of 18W maximum. For a 20,000 mAh capacity cell, that often translates to overnight refills as the most practical solution.

As I said at the beginning, you can buy any powerbank you fancy and be totally contended with its core purpose – charging your devices. Stuffcool’s Roam+, however, offers certain conveniences that make it an absolute recommendation if you are open to spending a slight premium. For INR 1,899, you get a stellar combination of a cutesy retro sci-fi design and the advantage of 20W Power Delivery format support for iPhones, Google Pixels and Samsung Galaxy S devices. The provision of the 22.5W standard on the USB-A port should also make it suitable for a vast majority of Chinese-origin devices.
