Nothing Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro LEAKS! All For Cameras?

In a few weeks, there will be two new Nothing phones catering to the masses. Succeeding the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus from 2024, the Phone (3a) series brings in two variants with more features and better specifications. The Phone (3a) will replace the Phone (2a) as the more accessible product whereas the Phone (3a) Pro will succeed the Phone (2a) Plus. 

The difference between the two variants is substantial this year, with the primary focus revolving around the camera system. The design has evolved enough to suggest that it's new but with a certain hint of familiarity. Nothing remains tight-lipped about the overall features and specifications but the leaks bare it all! With March 4 on the horizon, we expect to get even more details ahead of the official launch schedule.

How does the Nothing Phone (3a) look?

Just as weird as the Phone (2a). The teasers and leaked renders make it absolutely clear that Nothing is aiming for an unconventional design theme. The intestine-inspired flat wire effect has made way in favour of a circuitry-inspired layout whereas the circular camera hump and the Glyph lights remain unchanged. However, there are three camera sensors aligned in the same fashion as the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s layout. 

 The sides remain flat like ever and we aren’t surprised considering Nothing blatantly copies Apple’s design trends. The volume keys are positioned centrally on the left side whereas the power key (now bigger, thanks to the iPhone again) goes further down the right side of the phone. A new camera key sits in close proximity to the power key and unlike Apple’s implementation, this one is simply a physical button. 

The front looks no different from the older phone – the same edge-to-edge design with a centrally mounted camera cutout. 

As far as the colourways are concerned, Nothing will offer the phone in black and white shades.

And what about the Phone (3a) Pro?

The Phone (3a) Pro looks largely the same as the Phone (3a), save for the camera module. There are still three camera sensors present here but the layout is different. The main and ultrawide sensors are arranged vertically whereas the third telephoto sensor with a periscope lens setup takes up the center space. It looks weirder than the Phone (3a)’s module but nerds may dig the retro 90s’ functional design vibes here.

The colourway is slightly varying too. While the black remains, the white variant makes way for a greyish tone.

Nothing Phone (3a) series leaked specs at a glance

The Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro are expected to feature the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset – Qualcomm’s newest midrange chipset. Hence, performance expectations are going to be largely mid-level. While the RAM on the vanilla model varies between 8 GB and 12 GB, the Pro variant comes as standard with 12 GB. Onboard storage of 256 GB is available as standard on both models although a more accessible 128 GB variant is available too. 

 The display on both models remains the same at 6.7 inches of LTPS OLED panel with a max refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness rating of 3,000 nits. Both models are powered by a 5,000 mAh capacity battery and Wi-Fi 6 is available as standard. Sadly, no wireless charging for the (3a) series yet. 

The camera systems are different though. The Phone (3a) features a 50-megapixel main sensor accompanied by another 50-megapixel telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and an 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter. The Phone (3a) Pro retains a similar setup, save for a new 50-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom that promises up to 60x digital magnification.

How much will the Phone (3a) series cost?

Based on the rumours, the Phone (3a) is expected to come with a starting price of INR 25,000 whereas the Phone (3a) Pro could be sitting at the INR 30,000 price tier.
