Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Swift earlier this year and that has been a very successful refresh for the brand in terms of sales. A little later, they also brought in the CNG variant to satisfy the needs of mileage-conscious customers. Now, reports have surfaced about Maruti testing a Swift Hybrid on Indian soil and its potential launch here in the next few months.
The current Indian Swift is propelled by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series engine which produces 80 hp and 112Nm of peak torque. The car is currently claimed to deliver a fuel efficiency of 25.75 km/l on petrol and 32.78 km/kg on CNG. The inclusion of the hybrid technology will enhance the performance as well as the efficiency of India’s favourite hatchback.
What exactly is the Swift Hybrid?
The Suzuki Swift Hybrid has been on sale in the western markets like Australia and the UK for quite some time now.
The car uses the same 1.2-litre Z-series three-cylinder petrol engine which debuted in the new Indian Swift earlier this year. However, the hybrid model gets the additional support of a 12V mild hybrid system that uses a 10Ah battery and belt-driven ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) for an extra punch of 3 hp and 60Nm of torque. This additional boost should not only make it peppier for quick overtakes but also help in improving the mileage by reducing stress from the three-pot petrol burner.
The Swift Hybrid test mule was spied undisguised on the roads of Bengaluru. The car flaunts its Hybrid badge on the tailgate along with a caution sticker on the driver's door which states ‘Test Vehicle’. A few speculations claim that the test mule might be out for ADAS testing.
All we can say is there are great times ahead. Imagine this cute little hatch equipped with modern bells and whistles like Hybrid and ADAS suite. Sounds exciting, right?

Expected pricing and launch date of Swift Hybrid
The vehicle has been anticipated to launch in the Indian market for quite a while now, however, there is no official confirmation by the brand yet. We speculate that Maruti Suzuki may unveil this car in India at the upcoming Auto Expo 2025 and then launch it later in the country.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol is currently on sale for a starting price of INR 6.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). The CNG variant is available from a starting price of INR 8.19 lakhs. Upon its arrival, we expect the Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid to be priced slightly premium over the standard model because of the additional Hybrid technology.
