Mahindra may have written a new chapter in India’s EV revolution with the launch of its electric cars, the BE 6e and XEV 9e. Both are new-generation SUVs, with the BE 6e being the smaller of the two while the XEV 9e is a larger electric SUV.
These electric SUVs introduce a refreshed design, modern features, and, most importantly, significant technological upgrades.
Both SUVs share similar technology, except that the XEV 9e is equipped with three 12.3-inch screens, while the BE 6e features two. The BE 6e is positioned as a direct competitor to Tata’s latest CURVV EV, but that’s a topic for another day.
Since you have been watching or reading a lot of speed tests and walkaround videos about Mahindra’s latest toys, here we are explaining to you all the technology that is being used in Mahindra BE 6e.
The tech in Mahindra BE 6e
Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit
The BE 6e is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 platform, an automotive-grade chipset offering robust computing capabilities. It is one of the most powerful automotive chipsets globally, paired with a 6th-generation Adreno GPU, 24GB RAM and 128GB storage. This SoC handles all the processing required for the BE 6e’s advanced functionalities.
MAIA AI Architecture
At the core of the BE 6e is MAIA, Mahindra's advanced AI architecture. This intelligent system enables features like over-the-air updates, voice commands and personalised user experiences, ensuring the SUV remains functional and relevant as technologies evolve.
Dual displays
The dashboard of the BE 6e features two 12.3-inch displays, including an augmented reality heads-up display (HUD) and a digital dashboard. These screens provide essential information such as navigation and performance metrics, while the secondary screen handles cabin control features and OTT apps, which we’ll discuss next.
OTT apps support
Mahindra has pre-installed over 60 apps in the BE 6e, covering OTT platforms, social media, shopping and news services. While this might raise eyebrows, these apps are reserved for the second screen, accessible only to the passenger. With these features, you can watch YouTube videos or stream movies on the JioCinema app directly on the BE 6e’s display. The car also supports Wi-Fi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.2 for seamless connectivity.
Wireless smartphone integration
The BE 6e supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, eliminating the need for type-C or lightning cables. Once connected, the phone can be controlled via the second display. Additionally, the car features Amazon Alexa integration, which can be operated through voice commands.
Automatic parking system
A standout feature of the BE 6e in the sub-INR 20 lakh segment is its advanced automatic parking system equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors. These sensors facilitate perpendicular, parallel and angular parking, including reverse assist. The parking system can even be operated using the car’s key which Mahindra is calling a key fob.
Selfie camera with Augmented Reality
The BE 6e includes a unique feature for passengers: a selfie camera that captures images without the need for a phone. These photos are stored in the car’s memory. The XEV 9e takes it a step further by offering fun AR filters and even Zoom meeting capabilities via its integrated camera system.
High-Speed device charging
The BE 6e features a wireless charging pad and two type-C ports in the front. For backseat passengers, Mahindra has included a 65W USB-C fast charging port, allowing them to charge their devices efficiently with a fast charging cable.
16 Harman Kardon speakers
The BE 6e brings Mahindra Sonic Studio Experience that gives you a 16-speaker and 15-channel amplifier Harman Kardon sound system. The XEV 9e, on the other hand, has Dolby Atmos for an enhanced sound experience.
