Tata Motors has been dominating the sales charts of EV four-wheelers in the country. The brand is a segment leader with over sixty per cent of the market share. However, things are about to change, because Mahindra has dropped two stellar SUVs to disrupt the market.

Mahindra has launched the BE 6e and XEV 9e born electric EVs in India, thus posing a threat to Tata's monopoly.

The BE 6e is the smaller car here and the XEV 9e is the bigger one. The BE series will get other models in the future probably based on the concepts like the BE.07 and BE.09.

Everything You Need to Know about Mahindra BE 6e

Exterior Design and features

The Mahindra BE 6e resembles the radical BE concept cars showcased earlier by the brand.

The production car looks modern and futuristic with its sharp and angular aesthetics. To enhance its sporty appeal and aerodynamic efficiency, it also gets air ducts on the front bonnet.

The car also gets C-shaped DRLs which wrap around the LED headlamps, with the fog lamps placed on the lower part of the bumper. The car gets a glossy black cladding all around to enhance its visual bulk and sporty appeal.

At the rear, the car is decorated with full-width LED taillamps along with split rear spoilers which not only look cool but also help with aerodynamics. The side profile of the BE 6e looks smashing with a typical sloping roofline on the side along with aerodynamically designed alloy wheels, flush door handles and sharp cuts and creases on the doors.

Performance

The Mahindra BE 6e is offered with two battery packs; one with 59kWh and the other with 79kWh capacity with an ARAI claimed range of 535km and 682km respectively. Mahindra provides a lifetime warranty on the battery packs which is commendable.

The brand also claims a fast charging time of just 20 minutes for 20 to 80 per cent charge, thanks to the support of up to 175KW DC fast charging. As standard, the car will come with either an 11.2kW or 7.3kW AC charger.

The car is propelled by a single motor setup which sends power to the rear wheels. The motor churns out 228 hp on the small battery variant and 281 hp on the bigger battery variant with a common torque output of 380 Nm on both.

The car runs on 19-inch alloy wheels by default. The brand also offers optional 20-inch alloy wheels. It is also equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels along with features like regenerative braking and semi-active suspension among others.

Pricing and rivals of the Mahindra BE 6e

The brand has unveiled details only for the entry-level Pack One variant of the car. The rest of the variants and their details are expected to be out at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The car is priced at INR 18.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, this is an introductory pricing excluding the cost of the charger.

At its current pricing, the Mahindra BE 6e is going to lock horns with the Tata Curvv EV. As we all know, Tata has been ruling the sales charts of electric cars in India and has kind of built a monopoly in the market with over 60 per cent share in the EV segment. We believe new launches like the BE 6e and others will help Mahindra in improving its market share and it will also provide more options for consumers.
