We have spotted the test mule for the highly anticipated facelift of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. Compared to the current model, the car looks drastically different from some angles, while is unchanged from others. The car has been on test for quite some time now and we believe Maruti may launch this facelifted model early next year, giving the Wagon R a much-needed upgrade.
Our exclusive high-definition spy shots reveal all profiles of the upcoming car, giving us a crystal-clear look at the exterior design. We also get an idea about the interiors and features of the car by taking a closer look at the images.
Hence, Wagon R fans (if there are any), your favourite taxi car is about to get some cosmetic treatment. Let’s check out the 2025 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in detail.
Exterior: Hello Tata Punch!
Maruti Suzuki has taken a fresh approach to the design of the new Wagon R. The front fascia of the car looks entirely different from all its predecessors in a good way. It now looks more akin to its premium siblings like the Grand Vitara and Fronx in some aspects. The split headlamp and foglamp design may also remind you of the Tata Punch from some angles.
The front grille and the bumper of the car are also brand new and look attractive. However, the test mule we spotted had halogen headlamps, which is kind of meh. We expect Maruti to provide LED headlamps at least on the top trims. A closer look at the windshield of the car reveals a dashcam, however, we can not comment if it was there for test purposes or if Maruti will offer this as an optional accessory.
All in all the design seems like an interesting evolution and it might be able to change the national taxi car image on the Wagon R for a while.
Coming to the side, the car is mostly the same. iIt still has those flap-type door handles. Come on Maruti! Give us the trendy pull-type door handles now.
Other than this, the test mule is running on brand-new alloy wheels which look very similar to the ones on Maruti's Ignis. The fuel filler cap looks larger than the outgoing model for some reason. Maybe Maruti is clubbing the CNG and petrol inlets under the same cover.
The rear of the Wagon R has received major changes. The taillamp layout appears the same as before but it now gets smoked-out treatment to enhance its appearance. The rear bumper of the car has also been redesigned and it now gets a black element on the lower part of the bumper to enhance its on-road presence.
Interior and expected features
A closer look at the spy images reveals the light-coloured interiors of the car. This interior theme may make its way to the production model to attain an airy feeling inside the cabin and also make it seem more upmarket.
In terms of features, we expect Maruti to give the new 9-inch Smartplay Pro system, which is also offered on other Maruti cars like the Baleno. Other than this, the car is expected to arrive with climate control AC, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, etc.
Recently, the all-new Maruti Dzire received a star safety rating by the GNCAP. So we expect Maruti to offer safety features like six airbags as standard on this car as well for enhanced safety as compared to its predecessors.
In terms of performance, the new Wagon R is expected to retain the same 1.2-litre petrol burner along with the 1.0-litre petrol engine, which is also offered with the CNG variants. And because of this, we do not expect any major performance improvements. However, Maruti may make some alterations for better efficiency.
Expected pricing and launch
Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R starts at INR 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the new design changes and additional features could force the pricing to be slightly higher on the facelifted model. We speculate the facelift to arrive somewhere in the first quarter of 2025.
