The foldable smartphone category may soon get even more exciting, as new reports suggest that Xiaomi is working on its first tri-fold device. The handset, rumored to be called the Xiaomi Mix Trifold, has reportedly surfaced in a regulatory database, hinting that the company is preparing to enter the multi-folding segment. If released, the device would put Xiaomi in direct competition with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold and Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design—two of the biggest names in the growing tri-fold market.
Certification Leak and Possible Launch Window
According to a report from XiaomiTime, a device carrying the model number 2608BPX34C has been spotted on the GSMA certification website. This model number is believed to be linked to the upcoming Mix Trifold. While technical details are still under wraps, the listing itself is a strong indication that Xiaomi is actively moving ahead with development.
Industry analysts predict that the device could make its official debut sometime in the third quarter of 2026. Since Xiaomi has not yet publicly acknowledged the project, information about its pricing, full specifications, and global launch markets remains speculative for now.
Competition in the Multi-Fold Segment Heats Up
Xiaomi’s rumored entry comes at a time when the tri-fold category is beginning to expand. Samsung recently released its first tri-fold smartphone in early December, while Huawei kicked off the race back in September 2024 with its own multi-fold model. With Xiaomi stepping in, the competition in the ultra-premium foldable segment is expected to intensify further.
Current tri-fold options follow very different hardware strategies. Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with a 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It features a 5,600mAh battery and supports 45W wired charging.
Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design takes a slightly different approach with a 10.2-inch flexible LTPO OLED screen and the company’s in-house Kirin 9010 processor. It offers faster 66W wired charging, despite having a similar 5,600mAh battery capacity.
If Xiaomi aims to stand out, the Mix Trifold will likely need to match or exceed these specifications, especially in terms of display innovation, performance, and charging speed.
