Redmi vs Realme! This has been a long-standing rivalry in the smartphone industry since Realme's entry into the Indian market in 2018. Back then, the Realme 1 went up against the incredibly powerful Redmi Note 5. Ah, the nostalgia!

The rivalry remains active after all these years later, with both brands competing intensely in the mid-range segment and capturing a pie of it. A fresh chapter unfolded when Realme teased its 14 Pro series just an hour before the launch of the latest Redmi Note 14 Pro series. The marketing wars are always amusing to witness! 😂

Realme has now officially unveiled the entire 14 Pro lineup at one of its global events. The lineup consists of two models: the Realme 14 Pro and the Realme 14 Pro Plus. This time, the brand is focusing not on on-paper specs but on something unique that the Redmi Note 14 Pro lineup lacks.

Let’s delve deeper into these devices and see how they compare to the Redmi Note 14 Pro lineup.

Realme 14 Pro is a Chameleon!

This year, Realme is moving beyond the debates on AI powers, the fastest processors and flagship-level cameras. This year, it is all about a colour-changing design.

The Realme 14 Pro and 14 Pro Plus feature a cold-sensitive back that changes colour when exposed to temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius. The phone features a pearl design on the pack that looks as if someone splashed a cup full of water on the phone’s back.

The phone comes in a Pearl White colour that shifts to a bluish hue in temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius and reverts to white in warmer conditions.

The device also introduces a new ‘Ocean Oculus’ camera design that resembles a fidget spinner. The camera module houses three LED lights that glow simultaneously when the flashlight is activated.

Additionally, the Realme 14 Pro series boasts IP66, IP68 and IP69 certifications and can be put up to 1.5 meters deep underwater for an hour.

Realme 14 Pro Plus: Key specifications

The Realme 14 Pro Plus is the top-end flagship model in the series featuring a quad-curved OLED display and a periscope lens. While Realme hasn’t officially disclosed all specifications, various certifications have given us a glimpse of what the device could pack.

According to FCC certifications, the Realme 14 Pro Plus will include a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging support and run Android 15-based Realme UI 6.0 out of the box.

Digital Chat Station on Weibo reports that the Realme 14 Pro Plus will feature a 6.7-inch quad-curved AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution,1.6mm thin bezels and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, which is commonly used in mid-range phones. Its camera setup will include a 50-megapixel triple rear camera, accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 periscope lens with 3x optical zoom.

Realme has reserved the periscope lens for its flagship and Pro Plus smartphones only. For selfies and video calls, the phone will feature a 32-megapixel front sensor.

Realme 14 Pro Plus vs Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus

Based on leaked and confirmed specifications, the Realme 14 Pro Plus is shaping up stiff competition for the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus. On paper, the Realme 14 Pro Plus appears to have an edge with its periscope lens, Android 15 software, high-resolution selfie sensor and unique cold-sensitive colour-changing back.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus stands out with its larger 6,200mAh battery and faster 90W charging speed. It’s worth noting that these comparisons are based on on-paper specifications and real-world usage may vary.

Everything, however, boils down to the pricing. While Redmi has taken a bold step and priced the Note 14 Pro Plus above INR 30,000, Realme is yet to announce the prices of its upcoming 14 Pro Plus. We will know that later when the Realme 14 Pro series launches in India in January 2025.
