Oppo Brings Two Fs! F29 And F29 Pro To Take On Midrange Devices

It’s a fresh new year and as is the ritual, Oppo’s management was keen on bringing up a slew of new midrange phones to keep the footfall high in its showrooms across the country. The Oppo F series has been a topseller for the brand in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and that’s why Oppo decided to bring two brand new phones in this category. The F29 and F29 Pro bring new features along with fancy new designs to spice up the midrange smartphone segment in India’s bustling smartphone market.

Prior to getting to know these two smartphones better, let’s take a quick look at the prices these phones retail for. 

The Oppo F29, which is the more accessible of the two, comes in  Solid Purple and Glacier Blue colourways. It will be on sale from March 27, 2025 and here are the prices.

• Base model with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage costs INR 23,999.
• Top model with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage costs INR 25,999.

As for the Oppo F29 Pro – the one with slightly better specs and superior performance – you get Marble white and Granite Black colours. The phone will be on sale from April 1 2025 and here are the prices.

• Base model with 8 GB RAM and 128GB storage costs INR 27,999
• Middle variant with 8 GB RAM and 256GB storage costs INR 29,999.
• Top variant with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage costs INR 31,999.

With the prices out of the way, let’s see whether Oppo has done enough to woo India’s vast and demanding smartphone market.

Oppo F29 and F29 Pro: What these phones offer

Oppo has never been adamant about going for outrageous performance figures with its F series phones. Hence, the F29 and F29 Pro have fairly conservative chipsets to take care of daily tasks. 

The Oppo F29 relies on a fairly dated Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset whereas the F29 Pro goes for a comparatively newer MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset. Both phones feature something called ‘Hunter Antenna’ technology – that’s basically the antenna system aligned alongside the frame of the device, covering nearly 85 per cent of it. A 6,500mAh battery with 45W wired charging but sadly, there’s no wireless charging here (as is the norm). 

As far as the display is concerned, the F29 comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display featuring a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. 

Since Oppo F series phones prioritise cameras, the F29 promises two image sensors at the back. The main wide-angle lens has a 50-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture. There’s a 2-megapixel sensor for the secondary depth lens. Selfies are taken care of by a 16-megapixel camera up front. 

Oppo says that the F29’s durability makes it ideal for rough and tough situations. The IP69 certification suggests that this phone can withstand high-pressure jet sprays and dust easily. The build includes several measures like diamond-cut corners and impact-absorbing airbags to keep the motherboard and all other crucial components safe in the event of an unfortunate drop.

What extra does the F29 Pro offer?

The Oppo F29 Pro retains the same kind of durability, cameras and display as the standard model. However, the Pro tag adds the additional performance credentials of the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy – a chipset that was used in last year’s Nothing Phone (2a) and was just good enough for generic phone tasks. 

The battery is smaller at 6,000mAh but you get a faster 80W wired charging solution at hand. You also get a stronger Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
