It’s been less than a month since Apple rolled out its Apple Intelligence features with iOS 18.1, and we already have a major leak related to iOS 19. Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, has unveiled exciting details about the first feature of iOS 19.
Apple has been struggling to keep up with other OEMs in rolling out AI-driven features. Samsung announced Galaxy AI, OPPO introduced OPPO AI, and Realme launched Next AI well before Apple joined the race.
Since the announcement of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant has only shipped a handful of features, most notably in iOS 18.1.1.
One of the most highlighted features of Apple Intelligence was an AI-powered Siri that would be able to take advanced responses and provide accurate answers or actions, using OpenAI’s ChatGPT language model. However, Apple has yet to deliver many of these features in iOS 18 and appears to be reserving them for iOS 19.
We now have more details about it. Read till the end to know more.
Siri getting a major overhaul with iOS 19
Apple gave Siri a fresh look with the iOS 18.1.1 update by introducing a new design with a glowing effect and the ability to type out requests instead of giving voice commands.
This is not exactly what Apple announced at WWDC 2024. It’s no secret that Siri was one of the weakest voice assistants that would take minutes to do an action or simply not do it. It integrates better with Apple's in-built products, but outside of that circle, it struggles to perform any task.
Apple promised to make the new Siri more natural, relevant and personal which the company has still not done yet. It announced that Siri will give step-by-step instructions for any process, have onscreen awareness and take further action.
Bloomberg reports that all these new features will be now coming in iOS 19 with Siri getting a major overhaul.
Apple isn’t just relying on OpenAI’s ChatGPT model to upgrade Siri. The company is actively testing its own large language model, dubbed LLM Siri, within its organisation. This in-house model will enable Siri to work more effectively with third-party apps and deliver more accurate responses.
Although it has partnered with OpenAI to make Siri smart, Apple wouldn’t find it beneficial to rely on other companies to work on a feature.
For now, Siri is already seeing some upgrades. The iOS 18.2 beta includes ChatGPT integration, with a Google Gemini update expected soon. Apple plans to make these features available to all users by December.

Not coming until 2026
If you’re excited about the revamped Siri, here’s some bad news: you’ll have to wait.
While Apple may announce the all-new and advanced Siri at WWDC 2025 next June, it will still not roll out before Spring 2025. The tech giant has likely pushed this feature to the iOS 19.4 update that is expected to roll out in late 2025.
Gurman, in his report, has also mentioned that Apple is planning to release some big Apple Intelligence features with the iOS 18.4 update rolling out sometime later.
On the other hand, Samsung is also working on an AI-powered Bixby, its voice assistant, to compete with the new Siri. However, that may come earlier with the OneUI 7 update, releasing alongside the Galaxy S25 Series.
