“AI needs to say the truth & know the truth, even if the truth is unpopular”, said Elon Musk.

So what’s the truth that XAI’s Grok chatbot has uttered to make millions of Indian users happy? No, not the secret to India’s growing economy or the secrets of polity – it’s Indian abuses!

Grok has been in the limelight lately for blurring the line between diplomacy and your childhood friend. Grok’s responses have been the most human-like, outsmarting the strictly diplomatic responses of ChatGPT and Gemini. Ever since the chatbot was released to free members, many have been surprised to see how useful Elon Musk’s chatbot makes itself to generic queries. Trained on the world’s most information-rich and highly moderated blogging platform, Grok’s responses have been a pleasure to interact with.

Since Musk wanted Grok to be humorous, Grok has been growing witty day by day. The chatbot has stuck to delivering apt responses with minimal factual errors while maintaining a certain level of sass.

So why did India fall in love with Grok?

When it came to India though, Grok had little to no idea about how it could amass popularity in a Hindi-speaking country. Curious Indian users went on to test the limits of Grok’s replying abilities and were thoroughly impressed with the results. Grok can come up with amusing responses and it isn’t shy to include a bunch of Hindi abuses!

A lot of members on X were happy to see XAI’s chatbot being almost as friendly as their friends. Users took to their feeds to share all the funny responses they got from X, including the ones where the chatbot used Hindi slang to make the conversations spicy.

Since we too are a curious bunch of lunatics at Hardwire, we woke up our Grok AI portals and went on a slang-based conversation spree with the chatbot. Grok went all in with the “desi” slang with a no-hold attitude. Sadly, in the spirit of decency, we are unable to scare screenshots of those conversations but there’s nothing stopping you from going wild with Grok.

Here are a couple of hilarious exchanges and memes that X users have had with Grok AI.

And how did Google respond?

Obviously, Google cannot revise its AI goals overnight to win favours with the youth on the internet. Hence, Gemini isn’t going to hurl Hindi slang even if you specifically ask it to.

That said, Google is doing what it does best – forcing you to use its product on its platform. Based on the latest news, the age-old Google Assistant will finally be phased out in favour of the Gemini AI chatbot. Hence, for any questions and queries on your Android device, summoning the voice assistant will now bring up Gemini as standard.

Not only Android but Gemini will be the go-to voice assistant for all other platforms. Google says the Assistant will be replaced with Gemini on tablets as well as Android Auto devices. Even wearables like TWS earbuds and Bluetooth speakers will be able to access Gemini instead of Assistant in the coming months. No word on the availability of Gemini as the default voice assistant on Wear OS devices yet!

Gemini has been around on Android smartphones for a while and Google currently offers it as an alternative to the Assistant on new phones. The Assistant, despite lacking the prowess of AI, is known to offer superior integration with device functions than the Gemini chatbot. It remains to be seen whether Gemini evolves further prior to its official designation as Android’s mouthpiece.
