Perplexity has added a new finance tool to its artificial intelligence (AI) search platform, giving Indian users the ability to track stock price movements in real time. Announced on Wednesday, the feature lets people set a target price or a percentage change for any stock. Once the stock comes close to the set number, the system sends an alert, along with a short explanation of why the alert was triggered. For now, the tool is only available to paying subscribers.
Stock Tracking for BSE and NSE Listings
The update was shared by Jeff Grimes, Head of Live Events at Perplexity, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The feature, which falls under Perplexity Finance, works with all stocks listed on the BSE and NSE stock exchanges.
How the Price Alerts Work
At present, users can access the feature through Perplexity’s desktop and mobile web interface. App support is expected to arrive later. When a stock is searched, the AI-powered search result page now displays a Price Alert icon on the right side.
Clicking the icon opens a panel where users can set either a target price in Rupees or a movement percentage. By default, the system also explains the main factors driving the stock’s movement when an alert is triggered. Users can even add custom instructions such as asking the AI to “check social media and news to assess consensus.”
Alerts show up across the platform and can also be tracked on the Tasks page. Currently, the feature is limited to Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers, while free-tier users will get access at a later date.
Rapid Growth of Perplexity
Alongside this launch, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed that the platform now handles more than 300 million user queries per week. That’s a sharp jump from 100 million just nine months ago, marking a threefold growth in less than a year.
