Is that a bird? Is that a plane? Is that the new Honda City? Wait! That can't be the Amaze, can it?

Apparently, it is. Honda has dropped a teaser for the next-generation upgrade of its immensely popular compact sedan, the Amaze.

The teaser reveals the front profile of the car and it looks drastically different and more appealing than the ongoing model. The new fascia is more in line with its elder siblings like the Honda City in India or the Civic from the global markets.

This is the third generational upgrade of the Honda Amaze. The car made its India debut in the year 2013 and was based on the Honda hatchback, the Brio. Later in 2018, the car received its second-generation upgrade where it ditched the Brio’s old platform and adopted the sixth-generation Honda City platform, improving, driveability, space and comfort.

The car received a minor facelift in 2023, which introduced some cosmetic changes while the mechanicals remained unchanged.

Now the car is getting its much-needed and long-overdue generational upgrade. Now let’s take a deeper dive into all the expected features, performance and pricing of this new compact sedan.

The design of the new Honda Amaze

The teaser image reveals the front fascia of the upcoming Amaze. It shows the LED headlights of the car with typical Honda-integrated LED DRLs merging into the car’s grille. The radiator grille has now grown bigger and features a honeycomb pattern. The grille houses the centrally mounted Honda logo which too has grown bigger.

Dzire vibes, anyone?

Previously leaked spy shots of the Honda Amaze have suggested the car has a slab-sided profile. It will have a minimal-looking side profile with very few body lines and creases, thus creating a simple and elegant look. Other than this, the car might also get modern styling elements such as smoked-out taillamps to give Amaze a modern look.

Expected features of the new Honda Amaze

The compact sedan is expected to be loaded with comfort, convenience and safety features to the brim. We expect Honda to give it an automatic climate control AC, wireless charger, bigger touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery, and so on.

Since the new Dzire gets a sunroof, maybe Honda could give the Amaze a sunroof too now. It is our ‘Dzire’, and we will be ‘Amazed’ if Honda fulfils it.

Apologies for the puns but we can't control it.

Performance

The car is expected to retain its tried and tested 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol burner along with the options of a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT (continuously variable transmission). There are rumours of Honda bringing the CNG variants later to appeal mileage mileage-conscious buyers.

Will there be an Amaze EV? We don't have such high hopes from Honda.

Rivals: Should the Maruti Dzire worry?

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been the uncrowned king of the compact sedan segment and its latest iteration is set to break cover on November 11, 2024. This new Honda Amaze will go head on head with the likes of this new Dzire and Hyundai Aura. It will also lock horns with some subcompact SUVs around its price range.

Based on the teaser, we expect the new Amaze to be a compelling option for most buyers in this segment. Maybe the Maruti Dzire could have some real competition this time.

Expected pricing and launch date

The Honda Amaze is currently on sale with a starting price of Rs 7.19 lakh. We expect the newer generation to start at a slightly higher price than this. The new styling and the host of some additional features could drive up the prices and the value aspect too.
