Maruti Suzuki Dzire is finally getting a much-needed upgrade!
The fourth-generation model is set to break cover on November 11 2024 but we have gone over several leaks on the internet that reveal significant details. Be it the new exterior, the interior design and equipment levels of the upcoming compact sedan, there's not a lot left for Maruti to shield. Based on what we are seeing though, it seems that Dzire has matured drastically ever since its introduction two decades ago.
A short history of India's Dzire
Maruti Suzuki launched the first generation of Swift Dzire in the Indian market in 2008. At the time, the car was based on the 2005 Swift hatchback. The car provided immense value to the customers with its spacious cabin, big and practical boot space and a range of frugal engines.
Upon the Swift Dzire’s arrival, the market was filled with compelling offerings such as the Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Indigo CS, etc. However, the Dzire gave all its rivals a run for their money owing to low maintenance costs, an omnipresent service network, great mileage and bulletproof reliability. No wonder taxi fleet operators lapped it up as their top choice to haul India and made it the unofficial National Taxi sedan.
By 2017, Maruti introduced the third-generation model and dropped the Swift moniker from the name. This indicated that Maruti now had big plans for its compact sedan, which was evident from the styling. It no longer looked like a Swift with a boot strapped to its rear. The compact sedan not only outsold all of its rivals but kept putting up a good fight to the newborn lineup of micro SUVs.
Now, it is time for another new generation of the Dzire. The fourth-generation Dzire has to fight for the honour of sedans against a growing trend of micro SUVs and based on the leaks, it seems that Maruti Suzuki has done its homework well.

The Amaze(ing) design
Sorry for that pun, Maruti. We could not resist.
The Maruti Dzire was never a pretty car until the third-generation model arrived. The curvy profile made the car look bigger than its actual size and liberated a lot of headroom.
With the fourth generation model though, Maruti seems to be facing the heat from Honda's Amaze. Maybe it is just us but the front fascia looks strikingly similar to the current generation Honda Amaze. Maruti's designers also seem to have taken hints from the Audi A4, which is evident from its Bulgarian beard-style radiator grille.
The front fascia now consists of sleek LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. The radiator grille is brand new and so are the front bumpers which house the fog lamps in a black cutout. The side profile of the sedan remains unchanged except for the redesigned alloy wheels. The car also gets brand-new wrap-around LED taillamps, which look gorgeous.

Feature loaded interior
Some interior spy shots of the car have surfaced online and it seems there is a bigger floating touchscreen infotainment system than the 9-inch unit seen on the current gen Swift. To make it more upmarket, the Dzire will also get a segment-first feature in the form of a sunroof. Other than these new additions, the Dzire also gets modern luxuries like climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a wireless phone charger and more.
Since this is Dzire, Maruti sticks to a beige interior colour scheme with fake wood inserts. While it does liven up the interior in comparison to the new Swift's all-black interior scheme, some may find this colour scheme garish.
Performance
The car is likely to borrow its propulsion system from its hatchback sibling. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z series petrol burner has proven itself to be frugal yet adequately powerful on the new Swift. This engine churns out 80.4hp and 111.7Nm of peak torque, which on the Swift in enough to haul people and luggage swiftly. It will be interesting to see if Maruti tunes it differently for the Dzire give it additional weight.
Like the Swift, we also expect the new Dzire to be introduced with a S-CNG option.
However, what remains to be seen is whether Maruti considers the Dzire to be worthy enough of getting Fronx's 1-litre Boosterjet engine along with a Mild-Hybrid system. This could make the Dzire hit a sweet spot with peppy performance whilst running efficiently.
Expected pricing
Presently, the third-generation model of the Maruti Dzire has a starting price of INR 6.57 lakh ex-showroom.
Considering the design evolution and the additional features, Maruti could bump up the prices marginally to adjust for inflation (with regard to the vehicle, not the market).
Where will the Dzire fit?
The compact sedan segment is no longer as bubbling as it once used to be. Other than the Maruti Dzire, the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura are the only alternatives available for buyers. The Dzire and Aura capture the majority of sales in this segment owing to their reliable and frugal engines. Honda's Amaze, meanwhile, is sought after by families owing to its more premium appeal and comfortable cabin.
The new Dzire could try to pose a challenge to the Amaze with its enhanced premium appeal. Features like the Sunroof and the massive infotainment system could draw a lot more customers towards the Maruti stable.
As far as the micro SUVs are concerned, the Dzire could also pose a threat to the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
