The 2024 year marks the inception of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class (codenamed W214). This iteration will lock horns with the new-generation BMW 5-Series.
In terms of design, the E-Class draws design cues from the S-Class but, unlike the latter, the former looks more subtle but not imposing.
So, without wasting time, let’s delve into the offerings of the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Let’s read on, then.
Please note that some offerings can vary from region to region.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Exterior: Subtle Sublime
As mentioned earlier, the 2024 E-Class draws its design cues from Mercedes-Benz’s flagship, the S-Class. Except for the front fascia of the mid-size sedan, the side profile and the rear resemble the flagship offering. The front fascia, especially the new headlights may not look appealing to many but it might grow on some people.
Between the headlamps with the Adaptive Highbeam Assist feature, you will find a tweaked Merecedes’ signature grille, finished in chrome. But it’s worth noting that the AMG line of the E-Class will get a different grille. Further, the radiator grille gets illuminated at night; perhaps becoming a trend. That said, the next-generation BMW 5 Series also has an illuminated front grille.
The side profile of this German saloon looks even more smooth and elegant than before while retaining the silhouette of the outgoing E-Class. The main change, which can sometimes be hard to identify from images is the flush door handles. Those door handles have integrated illumination and pop out when the car is unlocked, as seen on the EQS.
This 2024 E-Class also stands on a new set of alloy wheels.
At the rear, you will see a redesigned taillamps and bumper. The shape of the taillights looks the same as the outgoing E-Class but the difference is that the new iteration has a three-star-shaped design inside the taillights. Besides that, the lower section of the rear bumper has dual trapezoid faux exhaust tips with chrome inserts.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Exterior: Dimensions
The India-bound new-generation E-Class will most likely be offered in the long-wheelbase version. Why? Because the outgoing E-Class is only offered in the LWB version in India.
As for dimensions, the new E-Class LWB is 17mm longer, 20mm wider, and 2mm shorter than the fifth-generation E-Class. The former also has a 15mm longer wheelbase than the latter.
That said, the new figures for the 2024 E-Class are 5092mm (length), 1880mm (width), 1493mm (height), and 3094mm (wheelbase).
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Interior: Plusher and Techier
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has the same interior layout as the new-age Mercedes cars. Upon entering the vehicle, you will be welcomed with a dashboard-spanning ‘Superscreen.’ It’s effectively a curtailed version of the ‘Hyperscreen.’
The ‘Superscreen’ package is optional and will only offer an added passenger display and a selfie camera (captures photos and videos). The camera can be of benefit in some situations
The 'Superscreen' has an updated MBUX user interface. The owners can also check their vehicle’s status and explore several features via the dedicated ‘Mercedes Me’ application. You can also download some apps in the ‘Superscreen’ via the ‘Mercedes Me Store.’
However, the standard offering in the new E-Class is a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. You can browse several things on the infotainment unit. It also continues to offer a Burmester audio system. There is also an optional Pinnacle package which comprises Burmester 4D audio system, heads-up display and a few more things. Additionally, customers can also choose to upgrade the upholstery’s material to Nappa leather. Another package called the ‘Avantgarde Advanced Plus’ adds more features to the screen setup. This package offers augmented reality (AR), which is meant to make navigation and driving easier.
More on the interior, the 2024 E-Class has Active Ambient Lighting with 64 colours, a panoramic sunroof, auto HVAC, ventilated seats with massage function, C-Type USB ports, voice command, voice recognition, etc. Further, it has a Level-2 ADAS, which comprises lane-keep assist, automated emergency braking, auto high-beam, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and so on.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Powertrain: The Core
In international markets, the E-Class have different powertrain options. The India-spec Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to have the same powertrain options as the outgoing fifth-generation (W213) E-Class. But they might undergo some tuning for the new E-Class. Although, as of April 2024, the outgoing version is only limited to E200 Exclusive and E350d. Mercedes-Benz India discontinued the E200d version.
For reference, the E200 has a 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder, petrol engine with an output of 194bhp and 320Nm. The E220d has a turbocharged, four-cylinder, diesel engine, which pumps out 192bhp and 400Nm of torque.
Lastly, the E350d has a turbocharged, six-cylinder (in-line), diesel unit that produces 282bhp and 600Nm of torque. All three engines make the rear wheel spin via a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
However, we’ll get more details when the India launch nears.
