BMW has launched its sports tourer the 2024 S 1000 XR in the country. This new model has replaced its predecessor, launched back in 2020. Like its predecessor, the German automaker has brought the motorcycle to India via the CBU route.

The bike is focused on sports touring with its powerful engine and comfortable ergonomics. It looks astonishing with its tall muscular stance and has many sharply redesigned elements to distinguish it from its predecessor. The heart of the matter has been borrowed from its sibling, the BMW S 1000 RR. However, the brand claims many alterations have been made to this inline four-cylinder engine to suit this bike’s characteristics. It churns out 170hp and 114 Nm. Performance figures also look very promising with a claimed 0 to 100kph timing of 3.25 seconds and a top speed of 253kph.

Other design elements of the bike include an adjustable windscreen, and an 850mm tall seat (which can be lowered), the bike can further be customised depending on the package (Touring, Dynamics or M) chosen by the customer. The bike is loaded with a luggage carrier, a centre stand, a slot for the navigation device, hand protection, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and heated grips with the touring package. It also offers dynamic ESA pro, shift assistant pro and cruise control with the Dynamics package.

My favourite version is the white one which comes only with the M package. Other than looks this package also offers features like an M Sport seat, M Endurance chain, M GPS-Laptrigger, sports silencer, and much more.

Pricing

The BMW S 1000 XR demands a Rs 40,000 premium over its predecessor at an ex-showroom price of Rs 22.50 lakh. This bike doesn’t have much competition in India, its closest rival is the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes.
