BMW Motorrad has pulled the wrap off the new performance bike for long tours. The German company has launched a massive machine with a 999-cc engine.
Normal bikes have some limits, but when you hit the highways, you want to unleash your vehicle's full potential, and this machine is the perfect example of “breaking the limits.”
BMW says you can maximize your long ride, you can maximize your comfort, and if you want to maximize your performance, you can also do so with this machine. The M XR stands for MaXimiseR.
Apart from the throttle, let's focus on more important bits:
Engine: The four-cylinder (in-line), four-stroke, 999cc engine is oil/water-cooled. It has four valves per cylinder. This engine produces 201 hp at 12,700 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 11,000 rpm.
Riders can accelerate it from 0 to 100 km/h within 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 278 kmph.
Body and Design: This is definitely a big bike, but this one is not for everyone. It comes with an 850mm seat height and a kerb weight of 223 kg. The maximum weight this bike can withstand is near to 400 kg, but the company recommends to maximise it to 227 kg for optimum performance.
Riding posture is also deemed comfortable, as it's essentially a touring bike. Cast aluminium makes up its bridge-type frame. The front upside-down telescopic fork is 45mm in diameter, and the bike has twin disc breaks on the front wheel and singles on the rear wheel. BMW Motorrad has also offered the ABS switch-off and on feature for riders.
The BMW M1000 XR fulfils all your touring needs, as it has a massive 20-litre fuel tank.
Electronics: It’s a premium, and it comes with many electronic features like heated grips, adaptive headlight (it adopts the roadways, analyses turn, and curves to illuminate your road in a better way), electronic immobiliser (it prevents your BMW bike from starting unless you use the correct key), LED tail light, and dynamic brake light (BMW was the first company to introduce this feature in bikes, and the BMW M1000XR also comes with this safety feature; the break lights act in a different pattern when you apply breaks). This German performance-oriented cum touring two-wheeler is equipped with a lightweight battery, a 12V socket, a USB port, a drop sensor, cruise control, an LED flashing turn indicator, a headlight pro, a comfort turn indicator, a multi-controller, and a 6.5-inch TFT screen with startup animation with M Logo, which displays all the important readings.
This can give tough competition to the Honda Goldwing and Harley Davidson Road Glide, thanks to the meaty engine of the BMW M 1000 XR.
