Finding an almost perfect motorcycle is no less than finding a compatible partner on matrimonial sites. You go to the market and see large posters showcasing beautiful pictures of motorcycles, you search on Google and get some paid articles at the top (unless you read Hardwire) and after saving your brain and money from all the marketing gimmicks, you visit showrooms and take test rides of multiple vehicles to decide on the perfect one.
Even there, the salesperson tries to manipulate you to secure their incentive, but you understand your needs better.
However, the scenario can be different for some people. They are self-aware and understand all the requirements they are looking for in their motorcycle. When they start their hunt for the most suitable motorcycle for their personality, they fixate on key points like performance, motorcycle type, acceleration, comfort, durability and price.
If you don’t want to overspend, a budget of around INR 2 lakhs is the sweet spot for most riders out there. In this price range, the game in the naked bike segment is quite sorted, with the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z being one of the most value-for-money motorcycles. However, the fully-faired motorcycle segment is still in the grey zone, with some overrated and some underrated machines.
I tested almost all the fully-faired motorcycles in this price segment and selected the best one based on performance, comfort, durability and acceleration. The motorcycle I selected belongs to the Suzuki family and it is the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. Below are the points indicating why the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is one of the best picks and the most underrated motorcycle in this segment:
Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 vs Yamaha R15
The Yamaha R15 V4 is one of the best-selling motorcycles in this segment of the Indian market. The M version of the R15 comes with advanced features like an LCD instrument cluster and a quick shifter.
Looks are subjective, but the Yamaha R15 series appears sharper and more race-oriented than its competitors. The motorcycle is capable enough to cut through the air with its speed on the track and even on the road but the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is more capable in comparison.
The R15M is powered by a 155cc engine that produces 18.1 bhp peak power at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Its competitor, the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, is equipped with a 249cc engine that produces 26.13 bhp maximum power at 9,300 RPM and 22.2 Nm at 7,300 RPM.
The R15 is approximately 11 kg lighter than the Gixxer SF 250, but the massive difference in power figures indicates that the Gixxer SF 250 can outperform the Yamaha R15 series in all conditions.
Another major benefit of the Gixxer SF 250 is its comfortable riding posture compared to the Yamaha R15’s tight and aggressive posture. Even the ex-showroom price of the Gixxer SF 250 is lower than the Yamaha R15 series. The base model of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 starts at an ex-showroom price of INR 1.81 lakhs, while the Yamaha R15 starts at INR 1.88 lakhs.
One drawback I feel with the Gixxer SF 250 is its older looks.
Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 vs Hero Karizma XMR
The Karizma XMR is another attempt by Hero to gain the attention of riders looking for a track-oriented machine. The Karizma XMR is powered by a 210cc engine that produces a maximum of 25.15 bhp at 9,250 RPM and 20.4 Nm peak torque at 7,250 RPM. The motorcycle looks aggressive, but in terms of power figures, it is also far below the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. However, the sitting posture of the Karizma XMR is slightly more upright than the Yamaha R15 series.
The ex-showroom price of the Karizma XMR is INR 1,81,400, which is equal to the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. Considering all factors, the Gixxer SF 250 remains the better deal.
Bajaj Pulsar RS200 vs Suzuki Gixxer SF 250
Bajaj has recently launched the latest version of the Pulsar RS200, but the motorcycle remains unchanged in terms of power figures.
Suzuki, on the other hand, has only updated the graphics, but the Gixxer SF 250’s power figures are already way higher than the Pulsar RS200.
The Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is powered by a 199.5cc engine that produces 24.1 bhp maximum power at 9,750 RPM and 18.7 Nm peak torque at 8,000 RPM. Even the homegrown Pulsar RS200 loses the power game to the Gixxer SF 250. The ex-showroom price of the Pulsar RS200 is INR 1,84,115, which is similar to the Gixxer SF 250.
KTM RC 125 vs Suzuki Gixxer SF 250
There is no real need to compare these two motorcycles, but since the KTM RC 125 also falls within the INR 2 lakh price range, it deserves mention.
The KTM RC 125 is powered by a 124.7cc engine that produces 14.34 bhp maximum power at 9,250 RPM and 12 Nm peak torque at 8,000 RPM. Its ex-showroom price is INR 1,91,795, which is approximately INR 7,000 more than the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250.
Conclusion
The only drawback of the Gixxer SF 250 is the lack of electronic features like a quick shifter and an LCD instrument cluster, which are available in the Yamaha R15M. However, if you consider the motorcycle's power figures, acceleration, sitting posture and on-road cost, the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is the perfect deal and yes the top version of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 comes with a ride connect feature.
