Ola Electric's situation is somewhat similar to a Pineapple Pizza. Some find it offensive whereas others don't mind it.
The service centres are full of hundreds of unserviced Ola scooters. Social media is mostly focused on the controversy between Bhavish Aggarwal and Kunal Kamra. But despite all the odds, Ola Electric is still able to hold its position as the best seller in the Indian market.
To further its cause, it recently announced that its Gen 3 platform-based EV scooters will be released by January 2025. Previously, the expected launch timeline for the Gen 3 platform was between March and April 2025.
The brand is accelerating the production of Gen 3-based vehicles to cater to both mass and premium category customers.
According to reports, Ola Electric has taken this step to capture the two-wheeler segment due to an increase in demand. The two-wheeler market has grown from 16.1 per cent in June 2024 to 21.1 per cent in September 2024 and in terms of price segment, users are now investing around INR 1 lakh for two-wheelers.
Ola Electric recently showcased several motorcycles at its launch event, but its social media channels remain silent on the matter, even after multiple queries from users. However, the brand has announced that deliveries of the S1 Gen 3 products will begin in January 2025, two months ahead of schedule. Let’s dive into the details of the Gen 3 offerings.
Ola Gen 3 umbrella explained
After the practice of inner-engineering, the brand has made several changes to the new generation platforms. The Ola Gen 3 will include five new scooters under the S2 and S3 umbrella. The S2 will include three new scooters: one targeting urban commuting, one touring scooter for longer distances, and one sports model for enthusiasts. The S3 model will include two new premium segment scooters, the Grand Adventure, and the Grand Tourer, to provide luxury and comfortable long rides.

Ola Gen 3 Platforms: How is it different from the older generation?
Ola has claimed that the new generation model will increase the overall performance of the scooter by 26 per cent and reduce costs by 22.5 per cent. The model is simple yet efficient. The third-generation platform has integrated the battery, motor and electronics into a single box and Ola has used an aluminum-built front and rear frame for a more stable and durable structure.
The homegrown Gen 3 battery pack consists of 4680 cells, and Ola claims these cells will be more powerful than the current version. Currently, an Ola battery is based on 2170 cells. However, more battery cells and larger components may cause overheating, so the brand has assured that Gen 3 products will reduce thermal inefficiency and improve shock resistance.
In the internal wiring of the first-generation Ola scooters, 10 ECUs were used. OLA reduced this to four ECUs in generation 2 and now the brand will integrate the co-functionality of the BMS, MCU, and other components into a single high-performance multi-core processor. The new architecture will minimise wiring complexity and make the new machines more reliable.
Another groundbreaking innovation will be a magnetless motor. The new generation motor features electrical coils to enhance performance with higher torque, which will also improve overall efficiency. Ola has integrated all of these components into a single unit to provide a more durable architecture for the machine.
The new generation-based Ola scooters will also introduce an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) in upcoming models.
New service programme by Ola
Ola is currently facing major backlash due to its service quality. The brand is focusing on improving this under the new “Network Partner Programme.” Currently, they have around 1,000 partners and in the future, they expect to expand to 10,000 sales and service partners.
