If you have dreamt of owning a Ducati but were unwilling to spend beyond INR 10 lakhs, the motorcycle Gods have heard your cry. Ducati’s Indian arm has unveiled the Scrambler Icon Dark as its most affordable motorcycle in the country, starting at INR 9.96 lakh ex-showroom. That’s almost the same kind of money you’d spend on a Kawasaki Z900!
Before the enthusiasts beat us up, we’d like to clarify that the Z900 is in a league of its own as far as performance is concerned. The Scrambler Icon Dark makes a lot less power in comparison and that eventually tumbles down to its top speed and other dynamic capabilities. But the Scrambler Icon is Italian and for all those seeking a passionate machine, it cannot get better than this (if it does, do write to us at [email protected] and we can chalk up comparisons, where our bias towards Italian machines will eventually win 😈).

But what does the Scrambler Icon Dark offer for INR 9.96 lakh?
Turns out, there’s a lot.
Ducatis are all about style and substance, and the Scrambler Icon Dark has plenty of both despite adhering to the idea of base model minimalism.
Let’s start with the engine, which is an air-cooled 803 cc L-Twin Desmodromic unit making 73 bhp of peak power at 8,250 RPM and 65 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 RPM. That’s a fairly beefy engine for a motorcycle that carries a dry weight of 176 kg.
Since this is aimed at beginner riders, the Scrambler Icon Dark comes equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and you get a dual-direction quick-shifter as standard. The tubular steel trellis frame promises good body control and as far as the suspension is concerned, you get an upsidedown fork (USD) at the front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at the rear. The 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with Pirelli MT 60 RS rubber make it an agile motorcycle on the city streets.
As far as rider comfort is concerned, the Scrambler Icon Dark comes with 790 mm seat height as standard but riders can opt for either a high-set 810 mm high seat or a low-set 780 mm low seat. The instrument cluster consists of a 4.3-inch colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity. Riders can choose between Road and Spot ride modes while four-level traction control and cornering ABS come as standard on the motorcycle.
Lastly, the design. The Scrambler Icon Dark comes in a single matte grey colour scheme along with smoked headlamps (the iconic scrambler-esque headlamp cross is still here), LED indicators and LED taillamps.
For those who like to tailor their bikes specifically to their taste, Ducati also has a long list of customisation accessories available for the Scrambler Icon Dark. You can get coloured body panels to spice up the looks. Riders can choose from various styles of mirrors and seat options to customise the experience.
