We are returning to the normal world after taking a dip in Maha Kumbh for automobile enthusiasts, the Auto Expo 2025. While the expo was full of divine vehicles, we felt a few were very special. There were a tonne of concept vehicles, an ocean of prototypes, along with a few production-ready cars. Most of these ambitious imaginations of the automobile brands may never see the daylight, however, this showcase gives a sneak peek at the capability of all the automakers of the Indian automobile industry.

I feel grateful that I got to see all these exotic machines, it does not matter if they ever come to production or not. At least, it broadens our viewpoint of the Indian automobile industry. This year, the show had some crazy cars and bikes on display which amazed us. However, there were only a few who truly felt realistic and we believe them to come and set new benchmarks in their respective segments.

So without any further ado, let me walk you through my favourite automobiles from the Auto Expo 2025

My top picks from Auto Expo 2025

  1. Tata Sierra

Sierra holds a very high nostalgic value in my heart and the crowd at the Tata booth proved that I am not alone. The Sierra EV has been in the news for quite a while now, and we expected Tata to showcase the production-ready variant of that car. However, Tata had a better plan. They showcased the bright yellow -- almost production-ready variant, of the ICE Sierra. The car is expected to break cover in the second half of the year and it looked like a bloomed sunflower in a bright sunny morning.

We believe that Sierra will be a great car for Tata and a headache for most compact SUVs (Creta, Grand Vitara, Seltos etc) in the market. The car bears a brand-new front design which is in line with the rest of Tata cars in the market currently. However, when it comes to the sides, it has those massive nostalgic iconic windows. These are not big windows anymore but the exterior is designed to mimic the same. The car had the triple screen setup on its dashboard and we also found the radar for ADAS of the front bumper, meaning the car is going to be loaded with all the bells and whistles.

  1. Hero Xtreme 250R

Hero is a bit late to the party but they have finally launched the highly anticipated Xtreme 250R to the Indian market. The motorcycle boasts an aggressive street fighter look and we saw people drooling over its design. The motorcycle gets a brand new 249cc mill which churns out 29.5 hp and 25 Nm of peak torque. The Xtreme 250R is priced at INR 1,80,000 (ex-showroom), which is way lower than most of its rivals. For example, the KTM 250 Duke churns out 31 hp and 25Nm and costs INR 2,25,000. I guess, this impressive pricing strategy should justify the late entry of the Hero in the 250cc segment.

  1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is going to be one of the most important launches of this year. Maruti showcased the vehicle at the Auto Expo and the crowd went crazy to have a look at the new-age Maruti. The car is going to play an extremely crucial role in the electric transformation of the Indian automobile industry. Maruti has been a household name in India for almost four decades and now this should give them an advantage in making the e Viatra a success.

Maruti is known to dominate the mass market cars segment for most of their products, however, this is the first EV from the brand and they too are hoping to get the maximum support from their loyal customers.

The brand also plans to develop an entire EV ecosystem named “e For Me” for the easy adoption and expansion of the e Vitara and any other upcoming EV from Maruti’s stable.

  1. MG Cyberster

MG also showcased quite a few interesting cars at the expo. The car that stands out the most for me has to be the Cyberster. I mean, when was the last time you saw frameless scissor doors on a sub-INR 1 crore car? These doors and the convertible roof make the Cyberster a looker. This is going to be an electric sports car with a twin-motor AWD setup which churns out 503 hp and 725 Nm of peak torque. The brand has not revealed the prices yet, but it is rumoured to be somewhere around the INR 60 lakh mark. If this turns out to be true, then there is no stopping for the MG Cyberster.

  1. Mahindra EVs

The most crowded stall was the Mahindra’s. The brand had put their brand new EVs, the BE 6 and the XEV 9e in front of the public for the first time. We also took a detailed look at both the cars and immediately understood the reason for the crowd.

These cars are nothing less than design marvels, we have never seen anything like this in the segment which attracts this many eyeballs. Other than looks, the cars are also loaded with features to their brims. The brand offers both cars with either 59 or 79 kWh battery configurations which means no matter which variant you buy, you will get a claimed range of over 500 km. Above all, the aggressive prices of these cars make them a mass favourite. The BE 6 starts at INR 18.9 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory) and the XEV 9e starts at INR 21.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Conclusion

We also got to see many other cars which mesmerised us. However, we believe the above-mentioned cars will affect the masses the most. These were either production/production-ready variants of all the cars and bikes and we believe these will turn out to be the game changers in their respective segments.
