Apple TV App Is Now On Android! Worth Getting Over Prime Video, Netflix?

Apple TV Plus has slowly yet steadily established itself as a solid alternative to dominant streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max. With several of its exclusive shows and movies bagging prestigious awards, Apple is en route to securing the top position in the content streaming business. But how was it going to beat Netflix and Prime Video if its availability was restricted to just Apple devices?

When released five years ago, Apple TV Plus was expected to draw more viewers to the Apple ecosystem and help it secure a larger foothold in the ecosystem wars. However, critically acclaimed shows were not a good enough reason to convince millions of people on non-Apple products to make the jump. 

Apple got the memo timely and slowly made the Apple TV app available on Samsung’s Tizen OS smart TV and Google’s Android TV platforms. Windows 11 PCs also got access to the app but one major chunk of the world’s digital population was still missing out on it – Android users.

Apple TV app is now on Android

The Apple TV app has arrived on Android and it brings along all the blockbuster TV shows as well as movies. The pricing remains unchanged, which means here’s what Android users will be paying to get access to the Apple Originals as well as the vast library of blockbuster Hollywood movies. 

Monthly subscription: INR 99 per month

Prior to purchasing the subscription, Apple will be offering a free trial of seven days for new users logging in via their Google accounts. Apple is yet to announce any annual subscription tier for the platform unlike some of its competitors. The Apple One subscription, which offers monthly access to Apple TV Plus, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and iCloud storage for INR 195 per month, is unavailable for Android users. 

Hence, for those already invested in Apple Music, Apple TV Plus subscription will come along as an added expense. 

The Apple TV app on Android offers some key iOS features like ‘Continue Watching’ that allows to pick up where a user left off across all their devices. The Watchlist feature keeps track of everything users want to watch in the future. Similar to Prime Video, users will be able to download and watch content offline.
