Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming in 2025 but the gaming community cannot keep calm!

After the first trailer dropped in late 2023, fans of the franchise couldn’t keep their excitement in check. GTA 6 will be coming 12 years after the first release of GTA 5 on consoles. New protagonists, new mission, new setup, new graphics and lots of new bits – all while retaining the core essence of the Grand Theft Auto gameplay experience.

Anticipating the enhanced system requirements of GTA 6, Sony even came up with a beefy new version of the PlayStation 5 console. GTA 6 must be huge then!

Although Rockstar Games is yet to reveal the second trailer, the excitement is off the charts. GTA 6 is likely to put us in the shoes of Lucia and her partner, both of whom take on the reimagined realms of Vice City we first saw in GTA 3. The world seems to be bigger and livelier than ever, with lots of opportunities to explore and experiences to witness.

Hence, if you are eagerly waiting for Rockstar Games to release GTA 6, join us as we explore everything we know about Grand Theft Auto 6 and everything we expect.

Grand Theft Auto: A walk down the memory lane

To set the context of how much Grand Theft Auto 6 means to video game enthusiasts, let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane.

Instalments in the Grand Theft Auto series have usually come within three to five years after the previous title’s release. While the series found its footing in 2001’s Grand Theft Auto 3, it was 2022’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that put the franchise on the pedestal. These games made GTA a common household name.

In 2008, Rockstar Games ushered in a new era of exquisitely detailed video games with Grand Theft Auto 4 and followed it up with 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5. These titles weaved an immersive storyline into the ever-expanding action-packed world of GTA that its predecessors were known for.

And now, the stage is set for Grand Theft Auto 6 – the first GTA title that will arrive 12 years after the last one. You can only anticipate the expectations of fans and other stakeholders.

Grand Theft Auto 6: Everything we know

One of the biggest takeovers from the first trailer of Grand Theft Auto 6 is the setting. We are going back to Vice City!

Vice City returns in the HD era

GTA 5 showcased a meticulously detailed take on GTA: San Andreas’ Los Santos and GTA 4 did the same for GTA 3’s Liberty City. Hence, Vice City was the only one left to be recreated in the modern era of Grand Theft Auto

The first trailer, released in December 2023, revealed the massive scale of Rockstar Games’ fictional take on Florida. Called Leonida County, the scale of the new map is larger than GTA 5’s Los Santos and features a variety of geographical features. Swamps laden with deadly alligators, snow-capped mountains, sprawling urban landscapes, opulent mansions, dirt tracks, backwaters infested with racing boats, long highways and a lot more – GTA 6’s Leonida County with a reimagined Vice City is bound to be a visual spectacle.

The first female protagonist

A lot of recent AAA video game titles have been giving options to choose a female character as the desired protagonist. GTA 6 is going a step further and cementing Lucia as one of the two protagonists you can choose in the video game.

Lucia, who seems to be a young female in her mid-20s, is likely to take on the challenges that Leonida County throws at her. Lucia seems to be good with guns and might give fans of GTA a healthy dose of 'alpha female' action – kicking down doors, handling weapons like a pro and a lot more.

She doesn’t seem to be alone though. The trailer reveals her partner joining her in local heists and if the rumours are to be believed, he could be Jason – her sibling. Or, he could be Lucia’s romantic interest.

A satirical comment on today’s society

Grand Theft Auto has always been a satirical commentary on the social life of the eras depicted in every release. GTA 5 left no stone unturned to take a dig at the mushrooming ‘social media’ culture, the rise of tech gurus, the questionable choices of the wealthy and much more. GTA 6 is doing the same for the early 2020s.

The first trailer has shown glimpses of life and people in Florida, all in a satirical taste. A lot of commentary has been made on how people from various financial and social sections go on with their lives, exploit social media with life-threatening and non-sensical activities and entertain themselves with Florida’s nightlife. We expect the game’s fictional radio and TV news channels to bring up funny incidents that depict references to real-life events.

When is GTA 6 releasing?

Based on the official sources, Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated to release in the Fall of 2025, if the development phase goes according to plan. Hence, there is a possibility of GTA 6 hitting the shelves by November 2025.

Where can you play GTA 6?

As is the norm with every Grand Theft Auto release, GTA 6 will be arriving initially on the current generation gaming consoles. Hence, those on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles will get to enjoy GTA 6 before players on other platforms.

Once the console release happens, Rockstar Games could bring GTA 6 to PC a year later. The developer could also come up with enhanced versions for the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
