Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 last month which are known for their special folding features, vibrant screen, AI capabilities, and the high price tag. Despite its matte finish, the Galaxy Z Fold6 became a social media trend just one month later due to some negative feedback. Several Galaxy Z Fold6 buyers reported a paint peeling issue on their devices. Samsung has acknowledged and responded about user's complaint.
What is Paint-Peeling Issue in Galaxy Z Fold 6?
Several Reddit users have complaint that the bubble paint around the Galaxy Z Fold 6's hinge, as well as paint around the charging port, is peeling off. In the same Reddit thread, other users have also reported similar issues with their Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. While these issues are understandable due to the device's age, their occurrence in newly launched devices raises concerns about the brand's quality control.
Samsung's Response On Paint-Peeling Issue
Samsung has responded to this issue on its support page, attributing the problem to third-party accessories and chargers. The brand has stated that “improperly grounded third-party chargers” may be responsible for the paint peeling issue.
According to Samsung, “When you are holding a phone that is being charged with a high-speed third-party charger that is not properly grounded, the leakage current can affect the anodisation (the process that gives a metal surface a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant finish), which may slightly delaminate the paint. Please ensure you use official Samsung chargers to prevent these issues."
Samsung has also highlighted that some users who use Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) devices with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 may experience similar issues. Samsung writes, “Using an EMS massager that is powered through your Galaxy device while holding your Galaxy device can also cause the paint to peel because the leakage current affects the anodisation on your phone. While using these EMS products, we recommend placing the Galaxy device away from you so that it doesn't touch any part of your body.”
As a responsible brand, Samsung has advised users to use only standard chargers to avoid this issue. They further added that third-party chargers can be used, but only from reputable companies that produce high-quality chargers adhering to Qi standards. The best advice is to use an authentic Samsung charger specifically designed for Fold devices.
