The Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona is off to an action-packed start. From Xiaomi’s Leica-branded flagship camera phone to a couple of solar-powered gadgets and Infinix’s tri-fold flip-style phone concept, there’s a lot to absorb.

Even Samsung utilised the opportunity to announce a slew of new phones! None of them includes the next-gen foldable or the much-hyped Edge devices though.

Although MWC is expected to give us more new stuff over the coming days, we take a quick look at everything that was announced at this event, starting with…

Stars at the MWC 2025

Xiaomi 15 Ultra

mwc 2025

Xiaomi’s ultimate smartphone for 2025 is official! In a bid to justify its name, Xiaomi has given it the ultimate camera setup co-developed with Leica – a 50-megapixel LYT-900 1-inch sensor with f/1.63 lens for main camera, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensor with 70mm f/1.8 lens for the zoom camera, another 200-megapixel 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP9 sensor with 100mm f/2.6 telephoto lens and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with 1/2.51-inch Samsung JN5 sensor. That’s a lot of kit for budding photographers! There’s even a strap-on accessory kit with a two-stage shutter button!

Beyond the cameras, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra packs the beefy Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite chip, a 5,410mAh capacity battery, 90W wired charging as well as 80W wireless charging and a 6.7-inch 1440p 120Hz display. If we missed it, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra also looks irresistible as a camera phone!

Xiaomi 15

For the lesser mortals, Xiaomi also showcased the Xiaomi 15 – a cut-down version of the Ultra with fewer bells and whistles. Offered as an alternative to the iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25, the Xiaomi 15 relies on the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 5,200mAh battery, a 1.5K resolution LTPO AMOLED 6.36-inch display, a triple 50-megapixel camera system and a design more akin to the older-gen Xiaomi 14.

Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36

mwc 2025

Samsung didn’t miss the time and opportunity to hog attention at the MWC too. After the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 are Samsung’s offerings for those seeking a relatively affordable midrange phone. The Galaxy A56 goes for a metal-glass body architecture, a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1900 nits, a midrange Exynos 1580 chipset and, most importantly, support for six years of Android OS upgrades! That’s a first for any midrange Android phone. The 5,000mAh battery should take just over an hour for a full recharge! The triple rear camera system includes a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main shooter, a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor and a 5-megapixel f/2.4 macro shooter. No zoom camera yet!

The Galaxy A36, on the other hand, relies on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 midrange chipset, thus ditching the Exynos chip. The display remains the same as the Galaxy A56 but you get a lesser capable triple camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel main shooter, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 5-megapixel macro camera. You also get a 5000mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging but this misses out on Galaxy AI.

Infinix Zero Mini

mwc 2025

You have seen Huawei’s tri-fold phone for a while but what about a tri-flip? That’s what Infinix has shown at the MWC 2025. Or rather, presented as a concept – there’s nothing in physical form yet!

The Zero Mini utilises a dual hinge implementation to make the phone fold into three sections. Although the official specs and numbers aren’t provided yet, the Zero Mini is as big as any conventional phone when unfolded. A single-step fold reduces it to a compact version whereas in its totally folded state, it is just as big as a Pager! Hence, you can use it as a dashcam when not browsing Instagram on your daily commute!

Lenovo Yoga Solar

mwc 2025

The desire to integrate solar panels on gadgets has been around forever and Lenovo showcased another concept to showcase that (we love to use the word showcase!). The Yoga Solar is a concept at the moment but Lenovo showcases (again!) how the form factor changes while considering the desire for more power! The light-absorbing panel on the lid is made up of 84 solar cells. Lenovo says that the solar panel has the ability to achieve a conversion rate of 24 per cent in bright sunlight conditions. Lenovo says that this conversion rate should pump enough juice to offer an hour’s worth of video playback. Not a socket charger replacement but just enough to keep the machine running, as long as it isn’t raining!

Infinix Solar Power Phone

Infinix wanted to have a go at a solar powered phone too! The solar powered phone concept device has a perovskite panel on its back, which Infinix says can provide a power input of 2W. That’s not enough to charge the battery quickly but it can reduce the power consumption while using the phone outdoors. An additional solar charging case is present to boost the power levels too. Sadly, this is a prototype too, not a production version.

Lenovo ThinkBook Flip

The Lenovo ThinkBook Flip is Lenovo is simply going berserk with screens! On the surface, it seems like a typical productivity-centric Windows laptop with a 13.1-inch OLED display. However, fold that small display out and you get a tall 18.1-inch massive OLED display! It simply flips open, like a Galaxy Z Flip 6. The tall display allows for a lot of extra vertical space to accommodate more Windows, thus offering the same versatility as a multi-monitor setup. Sadly, this too is a concept and we wonder what stops Lenovo from making this a reality.
