Apple’s much-anticipated update to Siri, powered by its upcoming “Apple Intelligence” platform, is now expected to arrive in the second half of 2025, according to a new report by The New York Times. This marks a shift from earlier reports that had suggested the update might be delayed until 2026.

At WWDC 2024, Apple previewed the future of Siri—one that is significantly smarter, more personal, and deeply integrated with the iPhone’s operating system. While the company showcased a number of advanced AI features during the event, there has since been little clarity on when users can expect them. Internally, however, Apple remains confident that it can roll out the upgraded Siri experience in 2025.

Central to this overhaul is what Apple calls “Personal Context.” This allows Siri to better understand and interact with data on your device. For instance, the assistant could retrieve a recipe shared by a friend, recall past recommendations from messages, or locate a specific file or email—all without you needing to manually search.

Another key feature is “onscreen awareness.” Siri will be able to interpret what’s currently displayed on your screen and respond accordingly. For example, if a contact sends you an address, Siri could offer to save it or provide directions without requiring you to copy or open another app.

The update will also bring expanded app control. Users will be able to ask Siri to move files, edit photos, send drafts, and perform other advanced tasks across Apple’s native apps—far beyond Siri’s current capabilities.

While Apple heavily promoted these AI features at WWDC—at one point even releasing and later pulling a TV ad starring Bella Ramsey—the company has yet to deliver them. The delay has led to multiple lawsuits in California, with plaintiffs accusing Apple of misleading consumers with premature advertising.

Despite the setbacks, Apple has rolled out minor Siri improvements in recent months. These include a refreshed interface, better voice recognition, and the option to interact with Siri via text. The earlier-announced ChatGPT integration also offers a glimpse of Apple’s AI direction.

If development proceeds as planned, the upgraded Siri could debut with iOS 19 in late 2025, or soon after in a subsequent update, signaling Apple’s full entry into the AI-powered assistant race.
