Apple iPad 2025 Upgraded! Did You Know That Its Price Goes Down?

Apple doesn’t promote its baseline iPad a lot and yet that ends up the popular choice among budget-conscious buyers. As someone from the YouTube fraternity said a long time ago, it is an iPad for doing iPad things. That means it does not need to have the latest and the greatest stuff from Apple. It can have basic specs and still be good enough for everything one seeks from an iPad. This iPad has now been updated. 

While the focus is totally on the iPad Air M3, Apple quietly updated the basic iPad too and surprisingly, it doesn’t have anything to do with Apple Intelligence! Even the recently announced iPhone 16e gets Apple Intelligence! 

Nonetheless, a basic performance upgrade is often enough to keep an iPad relevant for the crowd belonging to the lower price spectrum. The colours remain unchanged but the price tag has been altered to impress a lot more affordable tablet seekers.

New iPad gets some new stuff

The new base-level iPad gets a couple of changes that will put a smile on many faces.

- The A16 chip replaced the older A15 chip, thus guaranteeing better performance over the outgoing model. This also guarantees 5G connectivity if you opt for the Cellular variant. 

- The next upgrade is the presence of a faster Bluetooth 5.3 instead of the older Bluetooth 5.2.

- The base storage option has also been upgraded. The 64 GB variant has been phased out in favour of the 128 GB model, with 256 GB and 512 GB models available on top-tier variants. 

- Lastly, the price! While Apple loves to hike the prices with every successive generation, the basic iPad’s starting price has been reduced to INR 34,990! That’s almost INR 10,000 lesser than the 2022 iPad 64 GB Wi-Fi variant. A two-minute silence for all those who spent extra on the older model.

Are you missing out on something?

Weirdly, yes! Despite having a faster A16 chipset, the iPad 2025 misses out on Apple Intelligence. The A16 family of chips made its debut on the iPhone 14 Pro series in 2022 and was used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. If the other devices utilising this chip didn’t get Apple Intelligence, it seems Apple never planned the basic iPad to have AI features in 2025. Weird marketing tactic? Or just a clever way to achieve a lower price tag?

What all can you do on the iPad?

The iPad 2025 can still do all the iPad things minus Apple Intelligence functions. This means you can run basic productivity apps, watch movies and web shows, play casual games, write documents (with a keyboard accessory), scribble and draw with an Apple Pencil and use it as a media centre device. Remember that the A16 chip in its binned form won’t be suitable for video editing – you will need to invest in an iPad Air for that!

As far as scribbling is concerned, you now get the option to equip the tablet with the newer generation USB-C Apple Pencil, which seems like the obvious choice. Why would someone choose the older-spec Apple Pencil with the oddly placed Lightning Port?
