Earlier this year, Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, said Bajaj is working on the biggest-ever Pulsar. After a few months, it has been confirmed that the bike is Pulsar NS400, which will launch on May 3, 2024.
Bajaj Pulsar NS 400: Expected Specifications
The bike will probably borrow its engine from the Dominor 400 and its frame from the Pulsar NS 200. The 373cc, single-cylinder engine does duties on the Baja Dominar 400, KTM 390 Duke and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. This engine produces 40hp on the Dominor 400 and 43.5hp on the KTM 390 Duke. It will be interesting to see how much power this engine generates on the new Pulsar NS 400.
I assume Bajaj will use similar tunning as the KTMs because the NS has always been the highest-performance version of the Pulsar, so, Bajaj may follow a similar strategy with this bike too. The bike will have a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch, however, we’ll have to wait for the launch event to find out if the bike gets a quick-shifter.
The Dominor 400’s biggest culprit was its weight (193kg), and that’s why I believe Bajaj won’t use the Dominar 400’s frame and will use the NS200’s frame instead. The Pulsar NS200’s perimeter frame is already capable enough and with slight strengthening, it surely can handle a bigger displacement mill. By doing this Bajaj will be able to make the NS400 lightweight.
The Pulsar NS400’s design will be revealed on the day of launch. However, we can expect it to carry forward a similar design language to existing Pulsar NS series motorcycles available on sale today. In terms of features, a fully digital dashboard, Bluetooth connectivity, all LED lighting, and dual channel ABS, are expected along with the USD forks and a mono-shock for handling the suspension duties.
Bajaj Pulsar NS400: Expected Pricing
Pricing is going to be aggressive here. Major components of the NS400 are borrowed either from the NS200 or the Dominar 400. This means Bajaj probably has not invested as much in research and development on this bike as they do in building a bike from scratch. Plus, the new Pulsar NS400 might be competitively priced in its segment.
