For starters, the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has arrived on our Indian shores. Since this is a new generation, the Swift boasts fresh looks from inside and outside, plus it has a new Z-series, petrol engine.
So, let’s delve into the differences between this new generation and its predecessor. Let’s read on.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Exterior: Old vs New
The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has a heavily refreshed exterior from its predecessor. The overall silhouette, however, remains identifiable.
The changes comprise a newly designed honeycomb-patterned front grille in gloss black, flanked by L-shaped DRLs integrated with LED Projector headlamps and foglamps on the bumper’s upper and lower section. In contrast, the previous generation had chunky headlamps.
Another thing to notice on the new Maruti Swift is the re-positioned Suzuki logo, which now sits atop the front bumper. Its predecessor had the logo placed on the front grille.
Besides that, the front end of the new iteration also has a clamshell bonnet, unlike the predecessor, making the former look more sleeker, imposing and elegant.
If looking at the front from the 3/4th angle, you will notice a redesigned side profile, especially the rear end of the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift.
Another significant change is the repositioned rear door handles, as they now sit on the conventional position, instead of the C-pillar.
In addition, the new iteration also sits on a set of alloy wheels that look sportier than before.
Coming to the rear, the new Suzuki Swift looks similar to its predecessor, but the former has received newly designed taillamps that are smoked, giving it a sportier appeal. The rear lights have C-shaped LED lights, plus the rear camera is now positioned below the Suzuki logo on the tailgate.
Lastly, the lower section of the rear bumper is also revamped.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Interior: Old vs New
The Maruti Suzuki Swift’s interior looks more modern and elegant than before. The interior resembles the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Fronx.
The newly designed cockpit now has a floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and there are air vents below the unit.
The HVAC can be controlled via buttons, coupled with a small digital display, which shows information. Further, the new iteration also has a wireless charger, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (both wireless), and six airbags (standard). It also includes a six-speaker Arkamys-sourced audio system and cruise control.
The third-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift had rotary dials to control the HVAC and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.
Both generations have the same fabric upholsteries.
Furthermore, the new iteration has a nearly identical multi-function steering wheel to the predecessor, but the former has more controls mounted on it. Behind the steering wheel, you will also notice a tweaked infotainment setup.
The features carried over from the third generation include an analogue instrument cluster with a TFT display, auto HVAC, and a keyless entry with push button start/stop. On the safety front, the fourth generation continues to have ABS with EBD, hill start assist, ESP, and a rear parking camera with sensors.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dimensions: Old vs New
In terms of dimensions, the new iteration has grown in size over its predecessor, except for a few things. Below is the comparison.
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift has a length of 3860mm, a width of 1735mm, and a height of 1520mm, and it sits on a wheelbase of 2450mm. The boot space is rated at 265 litres.
The Swift (3rd generation), on the other hand, was 3845mm long, 1735mm wide (same as the new Swift), 1530mm tall (10mm taller than the old Swift), and had a wheelbase of 2450mm, which is also same as the new Swift.
The old Swift had 3 litres more boot space than the new one, which stood at 268 litres.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Specifications: Old vs New
The new version is now powered by a new petrol engine, which comprises a Z-series 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol unit, having a lower output of 80.46bhp at 5700rpm and 111.7Nm of peak torque at 4300rpm.
It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and has an optional five-speed AMT unit.
In contrast, the old Swift was powered by a K-series 1.2-litre engine, a naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produced 88bhp at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4400rpm.
This one also had the same transmission options as the new one.
All-in-all, the new iteration has a lower engine output than the older version. As a result, the former has a better mileage figure than the latter. The 2024 Swift’s mileage ranges between 24.8km/l and 25.75km/l, depending on the transmission.
