Mahindra Auto is aggressively aiming at the EV market in India. The company is thoroughly working on their electric vehicles and will sell them under its XUV.e and BE brands. Products from those brands are expected to arrive in 2025.
And, ahead of their launch, the Mahindra XUV700 electric SUV (XUV.e8) and Coupe (XUV.e9) have been spotted together, recently. They both were spotted with heavy camouflage over them.
These upcoming electric Mahindra cars will be underpinned by the INGLO platform.
Highlights
It is worth noting that the XUV.e8 is essentially an electric SUV version of the XUV700 SUV. And, the XUV.e9 is also related to the XUV.e8 / XUV700, but in an electric coupe version.
The coupe profile, as always, has always been a standout body type on the road. Both coupe and SUV versions have a closed-off grille, triangle-shaped LED headlights, and full-width LED DRLs with slight variations. While having similarities, the overall design language of these two homegrown electric vehicles is distinguishable.
The XUV.e8 has the logo embossed on the closed-off grille, while the XUV.e9 has the logo atop the bonnet. As seen on other EVs, both electric vehicles have aerodynamically designed alloy wheels with low-drag tyres.
Further, the body cladding on the XUV.e8 has circular wheel arches, unlike the XUV.e9’s polygonal-shaped cladding. While having body cladding on both, the flush door handles are also common, but the XUV.e9 has its rear door handles mounted on the C-pillar.
Coming to the rear, the XUV.e8 has its tail lamps borrowed from the ICE sibling, the XUV700 SUV. However, the bumper and tailgate have been redesigned to make it distinctive.
In contrast, the coupe version, the XUV.e9 has a sportier rear end, complemented by a full-width LED tail lamp and a distinctive tailgate. Its rear bumper also seems to have a rugged profile.
Other Offerings
As for the powertrain, we only have limited details about it. However, industry reports speculate that these two electric vehicles are likely to have RWD and all-wheel drive setups. The battery pack could be 80kWh, with support for fast charging.
Sources suggest that both XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 will have a triple-screen mounted on the dashboard. As seen on Mercedes Benz cars and other luxury vehicles, these homegrown mass-market electric vehicles by Mahindra will have each screen for the instrument cluster, infotainment unit and the co-passenger.
Moreover, Mahindra will also provide in-built 5G network support and OTA updates. These new-age advanced internet and telematics will enhance the overall ownership experience while allowing them to explore the world without hassle.
Both electric vehicles will house 5 radars- 1 vision technology. Having said that, the XUV.e8 SUV and XUV.e9 coupe will be able to support the Level-2 ADAS, including autonomous driving.
