The international-spec of the Jeep Compass has received a more powerful 2.0-litre,four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit. It’s worth noting that this engine is not new. It can be found powering the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. As per sources, this powerful petrol unit will also power the international spec of the Jeep Commander, which is marketed as the Jeep Meridian in India.
Interestingly, this 2.0-litre engine has also shown value by powering some Maserati and Alfa Romeo. This unit is derived from FCA’s Global Medium Engine (GME) division.
Will the Jeep Compass have it in India?
The American automobile manufacturer doesn’t offer this more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in India, as far as the Jeep Compass is concerned. As for the revival of the Jeep Compass petrol, some sources have stated that the Jeep Compass petrol may get a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol instead, which will pump out 185bhp, and may power the Jeep Meridian, too, once the 1.3-litre engine is introduced. However, as of now, the Jeep Meridian will first come back in a facelifted iteration in 2024. And later, it may have its powertrain changed.
