Creta Electric Photograph: (Hyundai)
Hyundai India has finally taken the wraps off of the highly anticipated Creta Electric ahead of its official launch. The car is set to break cover on January 17, 2025, at the Bharat Mobility Expo. The brand has released a commercial video of the car which highlights the exterior and interiors of the Creta Electric.
And if that wasn't enough, Hyundai got Shah Rukh Khan to do a voiceover for the advert! Aah!
For a crossover/compact SUV that's as evergreen as the Bollywood superstar, the Creta Electric is expected to create a splash in the auto segment and establish its presence ahead of the arrival of its competition. Watch out Harrier EV, e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser!
The Creta Electric is almost identical to its Internal Combustion Engined counterpart. It does come with some obvious changes like the closed front grille and a charging port under the centrally mounted bold Hyundai logo. Let’s explore other aspects of India’s favourite compact SUV’s green avatar.
Everything you need to know about Creta Electric
Exterior
The exterior design of the Creta Electric looks very similar to the fossil fuel-powered Creta and this is a good thing.
However, it does get some changes like the closed front grille area along with a block pattern on it for aesthetics. Other than this, the car retains the regular Creta’s connected L-shaped LED DRLs and vertically stacked twin LED headlights. Creta fans will find references to the Creta N-Line here!
It does get unique active air flaps tucked inside the front bumper to keep the temperature of the battery in check. The Creta Electric gets brand new alloy wheels which have been designed by keeping aerodynamic efficiency in mind.
Interior

The interiors of the Creta have been slightly updated. It now includes a gear selector on the steering stalk and the colour scheme is distinct on this car. However, the rest of the Creta features like a voice-activated panoramic sunroof, twin 10.25-inch screens and others seem to have been borrowed from its petrol/diesel sibling. It will also get features like six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control (ESC) and much more to ensure a safe ride.
Performance
The car will be powered by a single motor front wheel drive system. No, the Creta isn't becoming a hardcore off-roader even in its electric guise!
The commercial has flaunted the 0 to 100 kph timing of 7.9 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this class. The car will also offer features such as V2L (vehicle to load), single-pedal driving, regenerative braking and more to make it a well-equipped family car.
Battery, range and charging
The Creta Electric has been rumoured to be offered in two battery configurations: 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The TVC shows a driving range of 473km. This range is for the top-end variant of the car. The entry-level variant is rumoured to return a claimed range of 390 km.
Hyundai says the Creta Electric can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 58 minutes with a fast DC charger, while the 11kW AC home charger can juice up from 10 per cent to 100 per cent in 4 hours.
Launch date, rivals and expected pricing
After its official launch on January 17, the Creta Electric will lock horns with rivals like the Tata Curvv.ev, MG Windsor, MG ZS EV and upcoming Mahindra BE 6 as well as Maruti e Vitara. The pricing of the Creta Electric is expected to be really aggressive, it is rumoured to start around the INR 15 lakhs to undercut its rivals and make its own space.
