We finally have a date with the Creta EV!

Hyundai's much-awaited car is expected to launch on the first day of Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, which is January 17. The Creta EV will become the third electric car in Hyundai's India portfolio and will join the IONIQ 5 as the Korean carmaker's green offerings.

The petrol-powered Creta has been a top seller for the brand since its inception because of its no-nonsense nature. It has always been a good-looking car with ample space and a comfortable ride. Other factors that work in the favour of the petrol Creta are its punch performance and great fuel economy. This gives a basic idea of how and why the petrol Creta is so popular.

In theory then, the Creta EV should sell like hotcakes, right?

Everything we know about the Hyundai Creta EV

Exterior design

In terms of design, the vehicle may largely borrow the exterior looks of the petrol-powered Creta. But some obvious changes like the closed front grille and aero-enhanced alloy wheels along with new bumpers are expected to make their way.

Interior and features

The car is expected to retain the familiarity in its interiors too.

The dashboard design and twin-screen setup are most likely going to be the same as the petrol-powered Creta. However, the steering wheel is expected to be different here and drivers may be greeted with a steering-mounted drive selector similar to the IONIQ 5. Other than this, the car will have the necessary features seen on the existing Creta model such as ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, ADAS and more.

Performance

The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to borrow its power components from the base variant of the Hyundai Kona EV. Hence, we expect the car to have a single-motor front wheel drive system which churns out 138 hp of peak power and 255 Nm of peak torque. These power figures are already better than the petrol Creta on paper.

Considering the aggressive power delivery nature of EVs, we are very excited to get behind its wheels.

Battery and range

The car will have a 45kWh battery pack, which is slightly lower than the other electric cars in this segment. The MG ZS EV(50.3kWh) and a few other upcoming EVs like the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara(up to 61kWh) and Mahindra BE 6e (Perhaps BE 6) (up to 79kWh) will have bigger cells. However, more information such as Creta EV’s range and charging time is yet to come out.

Creta EV expected pricing

The Creta EV is expected to be the most affordable Hyundai electric car in India to date. Hence, we can expect it to start somewhere around the INR 20 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Before this, Hyundai had the Kona EV as their entry-level EV which launched at a starting price of INR 25.3 lakhs. The Kona was eventually discontinued to pave the way for the IONIQ 5.
