Kia EV4 Fastback Photograph: (Kia)
Kia has unveiled a brand-new car. It is electric and it looks smashing. The car is based on the Kia and Hyundai’s globally renounced E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) platform and is available in fastback sedan and hatchback body types. Not only the looks but also the performance and feature list of this car are quite impressive.
Kia has been crazily expanding their global EV portfolio. They already have a mid-size SUV in the form of EV6, they also launched the seven-seater EV9 last year and now, the EV4 marks their debut in the hatchback and sedan categories.
Kia EV4 specifications
Exterior design
The car looks sharp from every angle and in line with modern Kia EVs and the front gets the new subtle tiger nose grille, which is closed because this is an EV. It has vertically stacked LED headlights and signature starmap DRLs which look sleek.

The side profile of the Kia EV4 looks hot too, especially in its distinct fastback design, it gets machine-cut alloys, a sloping roofline for the fastback variant along well-pronounced body lines on both models. The front fascia of the car has a little similarity with other Kia cars but its side and rear profile of this car give it its unique character. The sloping roofline merges with the boot lid and then goes down with the rear bumper. The blacked-out pillars of the car give it a symmetrical appearance and it also gets body cladding all around which enhances its visual bulk.
Interior
The interiors of the Kia EV4 are very upmarket and are loaded with all the modern bells and whistles. It has a 30-inch display panel, which is very similar to the Trinity panel seen recently on the Kia Syros. It gets twin 12.3-inch displays and a 5-inch panel for HVAC. Other highlights of the Kia EV4 are ambient lights, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and more.

Performance
The car has a front axle-mounted 150kW electric motor that churns out 201 hp. The Kia EV4 can propel itself from a standstill to 100 kph in 7.4 seconds. This is what I love about EVs; their performance is impeccable and they can give any ICE car from their segment or a segment above a run for their money. The car has an Ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd which can put some sports cars to shame.
Battery & charging
The Kia EV4 is offered in two battery configurations with both body types, one with 58.3kWh and the other with 81.4kWh. The car is built on 400V architecture, hence, it is capable of fast DC charging and can be filled from 10 to 80 per cent in 29 minutes for the small battery variant and in 31 minutes for the large battery variant. Thanks to its large batteries and modern technology, the EV4 is also capable of features such as a 3.6 kVA Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and 10 kVA Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).

Launch and pricing
The car is set to go on sale in Korea in March 2025, after this, both versions will go on sale in Europe. After this, the brand will launch only the sedan version in the USA. There is no information on when will this car make its India debut but we expect Kia to bring it soon after its global launch. Because the Indian market is evolving and adopting EVs fast and is one of the major players in the ICE market, Kia won’t want to miss out on being an early adopter of this trend.
