Citroen India’s first Coupe SUV, the Basalt, which made its India debut in August, recently secured a 4-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP crash test. This impressive score was earned for both adult and child occupants.

Interestingly, the French automaker has incorporated high-strength steel, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) to absorb side and front impacts which will reduce cabin intrusion, thereby increasing passengers’ safety.

The NCAP-conducted crash test video of the Citroen Basalt was shared on NCAP’s website and YouTube.

BNCAP Crash Test Scores

The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV secured a 4-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP crash test for adult and child occupant protection. As for the adult occupant protection (AOP), this vehicle secured 26.19 out of 32. In parallel, it secured 35.90 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Moreover, the frontal offset test showed significant head and neck protection for adults, plus side and pole impacts were all rated ‘Good.’

Lastly, the front collision ranged from ‘Marginal’ to ‘Adequate’. All in all, the Citroen Basalt’s build quality proved to be strong in terms of passenger safety.

Features

As far as the features are concerned, the Citroen Basalt is equipped with a 10.23-inch touchscreen infotainment unit (with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), 6 speakers, a multifunction steering wheel, a wireless charger, a semi-digital instrument cluster, etc.

Further, this Coupe SUV also houses LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED fog lamps, halogen taillamps, and a headlight height adjuster. However, this vehicle does not offer a sunroof, which is a significant miss, unlike the Tata Curvv

Other offerings include a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 6 airbags, hill hold control, ABS with EBD, ESP, disc-drum brakes, alloy wheels (205/60 R16), speed-sensing door lock, auto-dimming IRVM, a reverse camera with rear parking sensors, and connected car technology.

It also has a fabric cum leatherette upholstery, a folding rear seat bench, one-touch windows (all), electric ORVMs, and auto climate control.

Specifications

The Citroen Basalt has options of two engines: a 1.2 naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.2 turbo-petrol. Both units are of three cylinders, and the former unit produces 80bhp at 5750rpm and 115Nm of torque at 3750rpm, while the latter unit produces 80bhp at 5750rpm and 190Nm of torque at 1750rpm.

As for the Basalt mileage, the non-turbo and turbo units return 18kmpl and 19.5kmpl (18.7kmp in AT), respectively.

The non-turbo variants are limited to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo variants have a 6-speed manual and a torque converter (TC) automatic transmission.

Citroen India has kept three broad trims: You, Plus, and Max. The Basalt has a total of eight variants.

The Citroen Basalt’s price starts at Rs 7.99 lakh for the base You Petrol MT variant, which goes up to Rs 13.83 lakh for the top-end Max Turbo AT DT variant. These are ex-showroom prices, as of October 2024.
