The mid-size luxury segment in India is transforming to a different level, and this time, you will hear the LWB moniker a lot, which is quite unlike before. And, that’s all because of the recently launched new generation BMW 5 Series LWB. The E-Class in India has always been sold in the LWB avatar, but it was not much known with that.
However, following the BMW 5 Series LWB launch, Mercedes-Benz India is now gearing up to launch the new generation E-Class LWB. It will surely be an important product for the brand as the E-Class is one of the bestselling Mercedes cars in the country.
Recent Developments
It is worth mentioning that the production of the outgoing E-Class LWB ended a couple of months ago, but there are some dealers who still have some inventory left. In addition, a few dealers also confirmed that they were unofficially accepting the bookings of the new E-Class hitherto.
Besides that, the 2024 E-Class recently entered the production line in India. Speaking of production, the LWB version is only sold in India and China. Ours is the only market with a right-hand drive (RHD), while China is the only one that gets a left-hand drive (LHD), as far as the E-Class LWB is concerned.
This China-spec has only petrol powertrains, while the India-spec has both petrol and diesel powertrains. There might be variations in features and offerings because of the country-specific product, but overall the India-spec will be nearly identical to the China-spec.
Offerings
The 6th-generation E-Class (W214) will get a fresh cabin, which will be in line with the new-age Mercedes-Benz cars. It will surely have a plethora of features, be it comfort, convenience or safety.
However, it will receive a multi-screen configuration, which will include a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch display for the co-passenger (it may be optional or exclusive to higher trims).
Further, it will continue to have multiple airbags, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated seats, massaging seats, connected car technology, wireless charging trays, reclining rear seats, and much more. The level-2 ADAS suite is also expected.
Overall, it is likely to be more feature-loaded than the new generation BMW 5 Series.
Availability
Currently, there is no announcement from Mercedes-Benz India, as far as the official launch date goes, but we can expect it to arrive later this year or early next year. Further details are yet to be out. But, once launched, we can expect the E-Class' starting price to be slightly higher than the new-generation BMW 5 Series LWB, which is priced at Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
