Remember the old era when scooters were humble, slow and acted like little machines that were only perfect for a quick dash to the shops or a leisurely commute to work? Ah, simple times. Back then, if you saw someone proudly revving a scooter at a traffic light, you’d assume they were late for a music class or popping down for a pint of milk. But now? Scooters are transforming faster than your average performance motorcycles!
There are so many fast scooters in the market but Ather has stolen the show with its Ather 450X. Ather has unapologetically ripped up the scooter rulebook and slapped down something that looks more like a tech-savvy spaceship than your average two-wheeler. It’s electric, futuristic and comes packed with enough smart features to make your smartphone jealous.
Of course, for all its wizardry, the 450X isn’t pretending to be something it’s not. The updated version of the Ather 450X is no longer just practical but it is now matching the level of 125cc motorcycles. It is now faster and feature-loaded.
However, the company has not changed the design and overall looks of the 450X. So, your eyes may not find the differences but your heart and the burning sensation in your wallet will.
2025 Ather 450X new updates
Traction control
The Ather 450X is equipped with a traction control system with three levels of settings: Rain, Road and Rally. The intervention of the traction control can be adjusted according to the rider’s riding style and road conditions to minimise the chances of wheel spin. For example, in Rain mode, the system will cut in sooner.
This EV-based scooter can produce a maximum of 26 Nm of torque, which is 1 Nm more than the peak torque of the KTM 250 Duke and 1 Nm less than the peak torque of Royal Enfield’s Classic 350.
This much torque is enough for accidental wheel spins since the small wheels of a scooter can cause difficulties in controlling a skiddy situation. The traction control system adds a layer of safety and it becomes more important, especially in the case of new and inexperienced riders.

'Magic Twist'
Another great feature of this scooter is the Magic Twist. Imagine riding on a busy road and suddenly you notice a reckless black SUV driver applying sudden brakes. In this situation, you could panic brake – but what if you had the option to reduce the speed additionally, alongside the braking system?
The Ather Magic was first introduced in the 450 Apex but now the company has gifted this feature to the 450X. With this feature, one can simply counter-rotate the throttle grip to slow down the scooter without the need to apply the brakes. This is one of the best ways to reduce the speed of your electric scooter and at the same time, it helps to preserve the braking system by reducing the frequency of brake use, ultimately increasing its lifespan.
Low resistance tyres
Low-resistance tyres are best for fuel efficiency and in EVs, these tyres help in increasing the range. This is why Ather has installed MRF Zapper N e-Tred tyres. It is co-developed with Ather and helps in increasing the overall range by 25 per cent.

The minimum range is 126 km, which you get with the 2.9kWh battery option and the maximum claimed range is 161 km, which you get with the 3.7kWh battery pack. The top speed of the Ather 450X is 90 km/h and it can reach from zero to 40 km within 3.3 seconds.
The starting price of the Ather 450X is around INR 1.47 lakhs, which is slightly more expensive than the Ola S1 Pro costing around INR 1.35 lakh with a 120 km/h top speed and 195 km of maximum range. The S1 Pro also comes with advanced features like traction control and Ola's take on Magic Twist throttle.
