Bajaj Chetak has been a very successful product for Bajaj Auto in recent years. The company entered the two-wheeler EV market with the Chetak in 2020 and sold more than 1 lakh units in the last financial year. This immense success has given the company a 14% share in its segment. Now, the company plans to expand Chetak’s portfolio to cater to budget-conscious, mass-market buyers. Bajaj Auto's Executive Director, Rakesh Sharma stated, “We will be launching a new product by May.

Upcoming Bajaj Chetak Expected Details

Two variants of the Bajaj Chetak are currently on sale- Chetak Urbane and Chetak Premium, priced at Rs 1.23 lakh and 1.47 lakh, respectively. As for the upcoming variant, it is supposed to be the most affordable iteration of the Chetak, so we expect it to be priced around Rs 1 lakh. All are average ex-showroom prices.

The currently offered Bajaj Chetak has a 4.3KW motor and a 3.2kWh battery, having a claimed range of 127km on a full charge and a top speed of 73 kmph. Other features of this scooter include a digital 5-inch TFT screen instrument console, USB charging port, all LED lights, a combined braking system, etc. This electric scooter weighs around 134kg and has a seat height of 760mm and ground clearance of 160mm.

Since the upcoming variant will be an affordable avatar of the current scooter, it may miss out on some of the features, unlike its higher models. Bajaj may also reduce the battery capacity slightly and use a cost-effective hub-mounted motor to make the scooter as cost-effective as possible.

Bajaj Chetak is currently on sale at more than 200 Bajaj dealerships across the country and Bajaj plans to open more than 500 dealerships in the coming months. The Bajaj Chetak competes against, TVS iQUBE, Ather 450X, OLA S1 Pro, etc. The upcoming scooter will go up against entry-level offerings like the OLA S1X, Ather 450S, etc.
