Leapmotor EVs
Stellantis is preparing to introduce Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand Leapmotor in India by the end of 2025. While the specific models to be launched haven’t been confirmed yet, Stellantis emphasised that Leapmotor’s focus on low-carbon mobility aligns with its own sustainability goals. It’s also unclear whether the EVs will be imported as fully built units or assembled locally. However, Stellantis has confirmed that Leapmotor vehicles will be assembled in its existing facilities in Europe and Indonesia for different regional markets, including India.
About Leapmotor
Leapmotor, officially known as Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., Ltd., was established in 2015 in Hangzhou, China. The company began delivering EVs in 2019. In October 2023, Stellantis acquired a 20% stake in Leapmotor for approximately €1.5 billion. This led to the formation of a joint venture, Leapmotor International, where Stellantis holds a controlling 51% stake. Through this partnership, Stellantis will handle sales, exports, and manufacturing of Leapmotor EVs across multiple regions, including Europe, South America, the Middle East, and India.
Leapmotor is also working with FAW Group to co-develop New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). As part of this partnership, Leapmotor will supply its EV platform to FAW’s Hongqi brand. A new Hongqi electric SUV is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026, aimed at global markets.
