Smartphones have become an extended part of our human bodies, and I'm not exaggerating! We have it with us all the time. From staying connected with friends and family, and engaging in social networking, to ordering food and navigating daily tasks, we depend on these smart devices throughout the day. The frequency with which we rely on our smartphones is countless, quite literally!

This convenience comes with the constant anxiety of "What if I need to book a cab, and my phone battery dies?" I have often found myself in situations like these, and these frustrating experiences have compelled me to learn some habits and tricks that can help prolong the battery life of our smartphones.

Let me share the top five tips that will ensure you're never caught off-guard by a low battery:

  1. Activate Battery Saver Mode: This simple action significantly extends your device's battery life by restricting background power consumption.

  2. Optimize  Display Settings: The display is a major battery consumer. Here’s how to manage it effectively:

  • Brightness Adjustment: Turn off the auto-brightness. Reduce the screen brightness to a comfortable level. This helps conserve battery across all display types, be it IPS, OLED, or AMOLED.

  • Refresh Rate Optimization: While high refresh rates provide a smoother experience, they also consume more power. Adjusting the screen refresh rate to 60Hz can reduce substantial battery usage.

  • Go Dark: Everyone has their own preferences but if your phone has an OLED or AMOLED screen, using a dark theme and wallpapers can save battery. These types of screens turn off LEDs in black areas of the display, reducing power consumption.

  • Shorten Screen Timeout: Set your screen timeout to the lowest comfortable setting, ideally around 30 seconds, to avoid unnecessary power usage.

  • Disable Always-On Display: Although convenient, Always-On Display (AOD) continuously uses a battery. Turning it off will give longer battery life.

3. Monitor Battery Usage: Regularly check your phone's battery usage in the settings. Uninstall apps you don't use that are draining the battery.

4. Manage Connectivity settings: Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile data, and location services when not in use. These features can drain your battery by performing background scans.

5. Efficient Audio Options: Using your phone’s loudspeaker for calls or music drains the battery faster. Use wired earphones. If your phone doesn't have a headphone jack, Bluetooth earphones are a more battery-efficient choice than the loudspeaker.

Here’s a bonus tip: Maintaining your battery charge between 20% and 80%, also minimizes battery wear and enhances its lifespan.
