People are getting involved in the digital world and as a mirror effect brands are trying to improve the experience of the Virtual World. Currently, two Silicon Valley-based giants have entered the mixed-reality concept, Apple and Meta. Apple’s Virtual Reality product is known as Vision OS.
The current story of Meta and Apple is very similar to Android and iOS. Android is an open-source platform, whereas Apple has reserved all the rights of Vision OS.

In a blog post, Meta announced that they are going to open the Quest operating system to third-party device markers like Asus, Lenovo, and Microsoft.

Meta is taking one step forward to make an open computing platform for Metaverse. We have seen the same strategy in the growth of Windows and Android. Now developers have the freedom to create their hardware and software. That said, the third-party developers can now make state-of-the-art hardware(s) based on Horizon OS.

What is Horizon OS?

Meta is working to improve the Metaverse experience and it's a visible fact that they have invested countless times in the research and development of Meta software and the Meta hardware ecosystem.
This hardware ecosystem will run on Horizon OS and the Operating System is capable of tracking objects, Gesture support, inside-out tracking, and self-tracked controls.

Meta came up with the Virtual Reality concept in 2019, almost five years before Apple’s Vision Pro. The company was not hyperactive at that time regarding this product but started creating new strategies after the announcements of new and upcoming products from their rivalries.

Since Meta has several social media platforms and a large network, as a result, the development of new products and services won't have to invest significant time and money to enter the virtual world. And Meta is trying to grab this opportunity.

Asus and Lenovo will use the OS to build devices for particular users. The Republic of Gamers (ROG) series by Asus is already in the making of a gaming VR, in the same way, Lenovo is working on a mixed-reality project.
This concept can be a game-changer in the content creation field also. The creators can use AR-VR to make different types of content. It will also help in the growth of their businesses in new ways to gain more reach and monetization.
Meta will also rename its Quest Store to the Horizon Store.

As for Meta Horizon OS, this will have Social Layers of People, identity, and their avatars. Developers can use it as a bridge on multiple platforms. People can meet each other virtually, and users will be able to use it on mobile and desktop.

Easy Ecosystem:

Rather than making hard rules, Meta has decided to keep the rules easy for developers. Any developer meeting basic requirements can develop and release the app on the Horizon Store and App Lab. Meta will also release a Spatial framework that helps developers create mixed-reality experiences with already available tools.
The main motive of Social media sites is to fill the gap between mixed reality and developers so that they can make a better ecosystem for end users.
