The Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has entered the smartwatch market by launching the Lava Prowatch model. It can be had in rectangular (VN variant) and circular shapes (ZN variant), alongside two types of straps- metal and silicon.

The Lava Prowatch ZN (circular watch dial) with a silicon strap has an MRP of Rs 4999 but is retailed at a special price of Rs 2599, whereas the metal strap is also currently retailed at a special price of Rs 2599. Since metal straps tend to command a premium, Lava might price it higher in the future.

The Indian budget smartwatch market is already filled with multiple options and most of them are nearly identical in terms of looks and features

Lava has introduced Gorilla Glass protection for the first time in this price range, plus the brand has posted lab tests. The tests showed that the Prowatch survived the 50000 times button test, 10Kg tension resistance test, 10000 times strap bending test, and 9H scratch resistance test.

What’s unique?

This smartwatch comes with all the necessary features like Bluetooth calling, a heart rate sensor, an always-on display, etc., just like other smartwatches in this price range. But Lava offers better hardware quality in their ZN and VN series than their rivals.

Build Quality: The base variant (rectangular shape) has the metal build quality and the circular product is also strong thanks to its metal body and Gorilla Glass 3-protected screen. Providing these two features at this price point is impressive. The ZN variant comes with IP68, while the VN variant has an IP67 rating.

Display: The ZN (circular shape) has a 1.43’’ AMOLED smartwatch and for better sunlight visibility, the panel has 600 nits brightness with a 60hz refresh rate. The rectangular dial (VN) offers a 1.96-inch TFT display and 500 nits brightness.

The circular dial has 466x466 resolution and 326 PPI density, which makes the texts and icons more attractive and sharp, whereas the rectangular dial has 320x386 resolution.

Sensors: Both watches come with a step counter, heart rate monitor, and SPo2 sensor (Saturation of peripheral oxygen - the saturation of oxygen in the peripheral blood). All these sensors are ubiquitous in fitness bands and smartwatches but sensor quality and accuracy matter a lot, and that’s why premium brands charge more than low-quality brands.

Here, Lava has used (VC9202 + VP60A) & STK8321 G Sensor for higher accuracy and it’s a good step by an Indian brand.

Performance and battery: The ZN watch comes with RealTek RTL8763EWE-VP with 128MHz operating frequency and the VN model comes with RTL8763EWE chipset with 100MHz operating frequency and this is enough to handle all your operating systems and UI. This is the first watch OS by Lava.

The ZN watch comes with a 350mAh battery and the VN model has a 230mAh battery. So, You can use it for around 7 days without the calling feature and around 3 days with the calling feature and it hardly takes 1 hour to replenish the battery.

Speakers: It has support for Bluetooth calling, coupled with one mic. The higher variant has a 95dB speaker, while the base version has a 90dB speaker output.

Tracking: You can set different sports modes based on your activities. The higher version has a total of 110 sports modes which makes it more accurate in most situations.
