At the 10th edition of Google for India, Google announced a $4 million fund to accelerate AI literacy among Indians. Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, granted funds to the Central Square Foundation (CSF) to raise awareness about Artificial Intelligence among five million students, educators, and parents across India over the next four years.

With this initiative, Google aims to promote the future of AI and prepare India for an AI-powered world. The company is also focusing on early childhood development by collaborating with Rocket Learning, an Indian non-profit organisation. This partnership is developing an AI-powered tutor named Saheli to assist children aged 3 to 6 in developing foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

AI Samarth Initiative

Google is calling its latest AI literacy initiative as AI Samarth Initiative in India. It will begin in government schools and develop training modules for students and educators, also involving parents. Google will create AI classrooms to encourage students to interact with and understand AI responsibly.

Google Saheli Programme

The Rocket Learning platform is receiving support from Google through its Fellowship programme. The grant will aid in the development of Saheli for the personalised education of young children, acting as their new counsellor or educator. Saheli will assess each child’s level and provide tailored assistance. Rocket Learning aims to use Saheli to help millions of children in 20 different languages. Google’s initiative will also enhance the quality of education in India.

This initiative from Google.org will benefit the entire society. It’s not the first time Google has taken such action; the company has provided over $60 million in funding to Indian non-profits and donated products and services worth approximately $195 million. Additionally, Google employees have volunteered more than 70,000 hours of their time.

This collaboration between Google and Rocket Learning will be especially helpful for underprivileged children.
